Does Wolfenstein’s B.J. Blazkowicz have a new body?

Warning: this could contain spoilers for something that may or may not happen.

Wolfenstein’s surly protagonist, B.J. Blazkowicz, has been through a lot. He’s been stabbed, shot, crushed and at the end of Wolfenstein: The New Order, severely blown the fuck up.

And yet he lives on. How is that possible? The simple answer is, “It’s a video game.” The more complicated — and in my opinion, more compelling — answer is “head transplant.”

In the first trailer for Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, we see Blazkowicz in several states of (dis)repair. First, we see him awaken in a industrial medical facility, apparently unable to walk. We see him blast his way through Nazi hordes with the aid of a wheelchair.

Next, we see him wearing the Da’at Yichud exoskeleton: an ancient, powerful armored suit used by the resistance in The New Order. Previously, the suit was worn by Caroline Becker, B.J.’s friend and co-conspirator. When we first met Caroline, she was bound to a wheelchair. With the aid of the exoskeleton, she was able to get back on the front lines.

It’s possible that B.J.’s use of the suit is a stopgap solution that allows him to keep fighting with his ruined body until he can trade it in for a new model.

Later in the trailer, we see B.J. getting around pretty well on his own, but with an interesting new neck accessory. The metallic ring could be a fashion statement, or it could be the results of a bold medical procedure. A procedure that is outlandish, but an established part of Wolfenstein’s fiction. FULL. HEAD. TRANSPLANT.

In fact, in the first cutscene we catch a glimpse of a hybrid critter with a cat’s head and a monkey’s body.

Is it possible that B.J.’s head has found a new home?

Yes. Definitely.

B.J. Blazkowicz got a new body. Deal with it.
