A woman on her way home in Saitama City was struck in the back of the head with a stick by two young men, police said

According to police, the incident happened just before dawn on Tuesday. Fuji TV reported that the 32-year-old woman was walking home in Urawa Ward after finishing her part-time job when two men came up behind her and beat her with a stick-like object. The woman, who sustained minor injuries, said the two men then ran off.

Police said they are examining street surveillance camera footage to try and get a description of the two assailants.

Here's a couple of real heroes! Got a woman from behind with a stick and then run away. Japan is becoming quite well known for its cowardly thugs preying on people who will not fight back. I have lived here for getting on two decades and have never been threatened. However, I know many women and children who have been attacked and threatened. Cowards!

Well, it's a good thing they ran, since they'd never get a fair shake from the Japanese cops. I smell something fishy in her story. She must just be looking for a payoff.

Gotta be Saitama! Hope they catch the guys.

Da Saitama!

Headline is mistaken. Whatever these 2 creatures are, they are not men.

And cue the usual banal comments about Saitama again.

I never seem see "Tokyo again" or "Osaka again".

wonder what some posters problem is with Saitama.

Any explaination would be appreciated.

re: Any explaination would be appreciated.

ok, here goes: has to do with the replies as to" why did you do it"

Police: Why did you it"

Suspect: I wanted to know how it would feel to hit someone.

Police: Why did you do it?

Suspect: I don't now I was drunk and can not remember.

Police: Why did you do it?

Suspect: I didn't like how the person looked at me.

Police: Why did you do it?

Suspect:  I woke up this morning to hit someone.

Need one say more...makes for good reading..

@Blattamexiguus

I think it's because it's a violent crime, and it's Saitama AGAIN. That's why.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Makes sense. It's not like other places also have repeated violent crimes.

@ bjohnson23

no Saitama connection in your dramatic imaginary theatre script. Standard Japanese excuse especially from policemen, politicians, buisinessmen and others caught in misbehavior. Often behavior of a misonygostic nature. What is your point regarding Saitama.

@thepersoniamnow

using CAPITAL LETTERS isn't near an EXPLAINATION. or JUSTIFICATION

FYO. Saitama prefecture ranks 9th in Japan for crime. Saitama city ranks 11th.

wanna comment n the top three prefectures and cities?

Blattamexiguus,

You must be new in town, stuff happens in Saitama all the time, That's why poster often toss the ole ahhh Saitama again, because stuff happens there time & time again, just does

Blattamexiguus:

Apparently, instead of "Sitting around and watching the Grass Grow" as in other places as exciting as Saitama,

they like to ATTACK people instead.

2 men beat woman returning home in Saitama

Was it a race? ba dum tsss!

@jcapan - comparing this to groping doesn't work. Even not looking for a payout, a girl may get the wrong person, but it's pretty clear who assaulted (that's the word you want, JT, "assault") the victim.

Couple of pansies that were too scared to attack real men. Jerks!

By the way, is it just me or didn't anyone else notice the advertisement in the middle of the page for a pair of knives? Is that just bad product placement or what? Yikes, not trying to give ideas I hope.

@Blattamexiguus - Um, yeah it is too often Saitama. I noticed it without anyone saying anything about it and laughed out loud when I read the comments. I was surprised when I saw that other people had said the same thing. I don't know what it is. It just seems like so many negative things happen there.

By "new in town" I think GW meant as in the JT community.

If you read JT often, you'd obviously notice the pattern of crime reported in Saitama, which has become a JT inside joke.

So yes, you must be new in town.

This is just a weird, unprovoked and wanton crime. It doesn't fit with classically safe Japan reputation.

It was just before dawn....

A young lady walking home at that time and beaten by two strangers who happen to be out and about at that time who didn't try and rob or rape her.

Just really weird and there must be something more to this story.

Dont name them as Men! #shame

Another good guesser that's wide of the mark I'm afraid. Only been reading here since before my first iPhone. (3G)

I have to reiterate regarding Govt stats on crime rates.

so just to try to put Saitama crime in perspective. It ranks 9th in prefectural crime rates and Saitama city ranks 11th in city crime rates.

Still no offers from the good guessers out there as to the top three?

Couple of pansies that were too scared to attack real men.

"Pansies" is a epithet used to abuse homosexual men. So, whilst | get your anger at the assailants, your choice of wording is off kilter.

Saitama is geographically a small prefecture. Albeit with a large population.

not quite sure what is meant by 'working class'

thought that expression died with Marx. (Not Groucho or Chico btw)

39th by area is hardly huge.
