Jeremy Corbyn vows to quit EU market and complete Brexit if he gets into Number 10

Leaving the single market would allow Britain to create its own rules and regain control of its borders

GRINNING Jeremy Corbyn has vowed to complete Brexit and take Britain OUT of the EU single market, if he gains power.

In comments that threaten to upset his own MPs and millions of new supporters, the Labour leader said the party would “respect the results of the referendum”.

And he said: “The single market is a requirement of EU membership and since we won’t be EU members there will have to be an arrangement made.”

The claim was immediately backed up by his radical leftie Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell.

The self-confessed Marxist said Labour “remain absolutely wedded to completing Brexit and getting on with the job”.

He told ITV: “Staying in the single market would not honour that.”

Mr Corbyn said the party’s goal would be a “Jobs First Brexit”, protecting jobs and industry.

He said his efforts as PM would be spent on negotiating tariff free access to the single market.

He repeated the manifesto promise to drop the Tories’ ‘Great Repeal Bill’ if he ever got to No.10 – and said he believed the Tories would now drop the legislation.

Leaving the single market would allow Britain to create its own rules and regain control of its borders.

Labour MPs remain convinced their long-time Eurosceptic leader privately backed Brexit, despite his declaration that he voted ‘Remain’.

They point to the difference in the scale of his Election campaign – backed by leftie ‘standing army’ Momentum and a huge social media operation – with his efforts a year ago.

Former Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna in May broke ranks with the party to insist leaving the single market was “unwise” and shouldn’t be an option.

One-time leadership contender Yvette Cooper echoed Tory backbenchers in calling for a cross-party commission to build a “consensus” on Brexit.
