Friend of WUWT Joe Bastardi, has been referred to as an institution in the science of weather prediction.
Over decades, many companies across a multitude of industries, from energy to retail, have profited from his forecasts.
His exceptional skills are rooted in a comprehensive understanding of global oscillations and in-depth analysis of historical weather patterns. This contributes to his skepticism of claims that are being made as to how bad things are now, since there are so many examples as bad or worse! The book brings out many of these and much more.
A revealing look by someone who has loved the weather since his first memory–and has worked in the field for over 40 years–at what is really inside the man-made “climate change” agenda. Bastardi shows through countless examples, the exploitation, politicization, and weaponization of weather and climate in an effort to promote an agenda that runs counter to the foundations this nation was built on.

just bought my copy!
I can just hear them now…
“Curse that Bastard…i!”
I once saw an article or something where they left off the ‘i’ – intentionally, I think.
Thanks for letting me know. I had $38 left on an Amazon gift card and didn’t know what to get so this solved that issue. Looking forward to reading it.
Thankfully, Joe wasn’t assimilated by the Climate Borg
Big Joe cut his own path with his WeatherBell.
Other meterologists, like the Capital Weather Gang, the Weather Channel Has-beens, or Heidi Cullen at Climate Central depend on their paycheck from politically motivated bosses. Thus they respond as any dog would to an owner who controls their food bowl. Joe controls his own food bowl.
Sorry Robert,
But the Borg only assimilated advanced sentient life forms, not worms.

Robert Kernodle, that was just M-E-A-N!! You could post a spew alert when you do that, you know.
Poor Michael Mann-Child. He had such promise.
Resistance is scurrilous.
Griff, before you attack Joe, will you first apologize to Susan?
I have nothing to apologise for: Susan Crockford is not a polar bear scientist or expert on polar bears.
That’s what well informed people on the net say and I’m merely agreeing with that opinion
I have no idea who this guy is.
[???? .mod]
As usual, attack the scientist you disagree with, not the scientific basis for her (Dr Crockford’s) positions. Can you point to something she got wrong? Have you formally commented on her paper? If not, sit down and be quiet.
“That’s what well informed people on the net say”
I gotta admit Griff, sometimes you do provide us with amusing comments.
BTW, are you saying you do not know who Joe Bastardi is? If so, perhaps one of your well informed people on the net will clue you in.
In Little Griff’s world, spending your life studying a subject, publishing many papers on a subject, doesn’t make one an expert.
Only being in agreement with those who Griff agrees with makes one an expert.
Have been crossing swords with the brain dead end of days alamists. I have heard a thousand times that scientests have no right to comment if they are not CLIMATE Scientists. Only the Climate scientists has the cranial capacity to comprehend the complex nature of this specialized science. These are the same morons that claimed for years that you can’t conflate climate with weather until the pause at which time they began to conflate weather with climate science.
“I have no idea who this guy is”
I have suggested you check out weatherbell in the past, to learn meteorology.
You don’t appear to be here for a learning experience.
“I have no idea who this guy is.” [Griff, 1/19/18; 10:21 am]
If he means Joe Bastardi, I suggest Griff go back about 10 years and start reading.
That reading should be widespread, because if anyone interested in climate does not know of Joe, then there is much else they don’t know, and they need to catch up — and stop posting until they do.
“Susan Crockford is not a polar bear scientist or expert on polar bears.”
You are a liar, a particularly obnoxious one at that.
[snip]
That’ because you are a mis-informed moron.
Griff, didn’t know at one time who Susan Crockford was either, insinuated that she didn’t know much about Polar Bears. He got schooled by Climate Otter over it, by showing that she has a PHD in Zoology and many papers/publications published on various Arctic animals including Polar Bears.
Griff, continues to lie when he insults her by saying she isn’t a scientist, when it is abundantly clear that she is well qualified and has a number of papers attesting that she is well informed about Polar Bears.
You need to stop with the insults and lies, Griff.
She IS an expert on polar bears, if she’s truthful in saying that she’s read everything published on the subject (she being an expert in related fields and thus able to understand what she’s reading).
Griff does not have any idea of most things especially looking for a study that MEASURES amount of warming caused by CO2.
Griff:
**That’s what well informed people on the net say and I’m merely agreeing with that opinion**
Griff – you have not checked with well informed people. It shows as you are not informed or playing ignorant.
“Susan Crockford is not a polar bear scientist or expert on polar bears.”
Telling ridiculous lies does not help your cause.
Chris
So, that’s it; ‘people on the net’ say it’s so. No citations, no qualifications, no actual references.
This isn’t a good look for CAGW fanatics.
If Griff didn’t exist we would have to invent him.
Griff, you posted a message that said Susan Crockford did not know anything about polar bears and had not published anything on the subject. A second poster replied to your message with a long list of papers published by Susan on the subject of polar conditions, arctic animals and changes, including polar bears, their sub-populations, habitats and numbers.
It is you who knows nothing about polar bears and who has published nothing on that subject. We now know that you hadn’t even heard of Susan at that time, yet felt it appropriate to issue such a baseless attack on her, hoping to fling mud that might stick it you happened to guess correctly, all because she was writing something true that you found uncomfortable. You were wrong to do that.
I see now that you have ignored my multiple calls and those of others for you to do the decent thing and apologize for misrepresenting her training, research, experience and knowledge.
Now you write, “Susan Crockford is not a polar bear scientist or expert on polar bears” hoping again to find mud that will stick. Stop guessing and grow up.
You have no standing to comment on or judge anyone’s expertise on anything that I can discern. Your denigration is mendacious and venal. It demonstrates your base attitude to your fellow discussants.
*snip* You do not possess the necessary courage to admit when you are wrong (as we all are from time to time)
Tell you what though Griff – Dr Susan Crockford is a much better scientist or Polar Bear expert than you’ll ever be, and she almost certainly owns a backbone.
“You need to stop with the insults and lies, Griff.”
Hey, even trolls like Griff have to earn a living!
Oops – my first scan of the post read:
My second read was more careful!
Yes, not to an institution, but the Left wants “re-education camps” aka Gulags, for those of us who deny their junk science and propaganda-laden Information Warfare climate campaign.
I thot Climate De.ni.ers were unedjumicated and coud not reed. Does it com audiobook format with big words translated for deplorable simple folk? 152 pages, that tak weeks!
I have painful memories of a textbook that wasn’t much longer than 152 pages. It literally did take weeks.
In some subjects, the number of pages in a text is inversely proportional to its difficulty.
A perfect post-Christmas gift for…me. Then I’ll pass it on to a woman I know that desperately needs it.
The projection coming from the Left, that theirs is science and we skeptics are purely motivated by politics, it is the most transparent bologna I ever saw. And good to hear from Joe B. again, been too long!
The left’s projection is chronic, clinical and catastrophic. And almost always intentional. It’s a handy tool in the manipulation toolkit.
Great. The real climate gurus like Joe must get their work out there for the public to be relieved of this worst manipulation of of truth for ulterior political motives ever. Shooting down the weird weather BS of Climate change with collected facts to show its all happened long before we could have had any effect, is the kind of push this leaning tower of malignancy needs to push it over.
From another operational meteorologist with 36 years in the biz, Joe really is the best!
His enthusiasm and love for the job is unmatched. It’s fun listening to an elite operational meteorologist sharing their knowledge in a unique way that’s easy to understand and that nobody else can communicate in similar fashion.
The best part is that Joe is 100% AUTHENTIC.
Joe is the only weatherman I’ve seen who can tell you what teams were playing when memorable weather occurred during his lifetime. That in itself should get him an award.
Sounds interesting
I’ll get my copy shortly. He does great work, unlike the armchair prognosticators spinning headlines.
Joe, you magnificent Bastardi!
George C. Scott played Gen. Patton AND Gen Buck Turdgidson, and I believe you are alluding to this scene from the movie “Patton.”
How about Killer Joe, you magnificent wrestler(!)?
Any plans to issue Kindle format? Not looking for a difference in price I just don’t do non-electronic books anymore.
Joe, same question from me. I’m looking forward to reading it as soon as it is available for Kindle readers.
Good luck with sales, Joe. My DAD, WHY ARE YOU A GLOBAL WARMING DENIER?…
https://www.amazon.com/Dad-Why-Global-Warming-Denier-ebook/dp/B078VBBPHD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515370466&sr=8-1&keywords=dad+why+are+you+a+global+warming+denier%3F
…is still selling well in Kindle form.
Email me if you want more feedback on Kindle.
Cheers, Joe.
Oops, sorry. I didn’t know that link would turn into an ad.
I love my Kindle. As a person that started reading for education and entertainment from the time I was seven outside of school, it is so great to have a library with me when I’m on the road in my big truck. I’m on my third Kindle now. BUT when it comes to charts, graphs, diagrams, maps, and other such graphics paper is much superior, So I am ordering two of the books in paperback, one for me and one as a gift to a friend who also admires Joe’s skill as a forecaster.
I would assume this is already digitized for printing and could easily be produced in a PDF format for electronic distribution. C’mon Joe, GTRDN…..
Is he a PhD in environmental science? Because I am, and climate predictions belong to chaos theory, that is, unpredictable. What is his science degrees? Thanks. JBVigo, PhD.

His qualification is a lifetime of 24/7 studies of weather plus a degree. I would put a well studied scientist against a PhD anytime.
He is a legacy meteorologist who got his degree from Penn State. When Mann was in kindergarten. Joe doesn’t predict climate, he is a long range meteorology guru who integrates modelling with analogous history and has a great record of predicting the next seasonal changes, along with predicting the Atlantic ACE before the National Center for Hurricane Prediction.
I consider him a very significant mentor in my post-retirement education.
For instance Dr Vigo (I presume), Joe finds Jan 1967 to be analogous to now. Using the MJO, SOI, ENSO conditions, and their established teleconnections, Weatherbell compares to analog years to tune the models. Less garbage in (and more history) than climate model based predictions means more accurate 3-month forecasting, at least from my viewing experience. I can only recommend viewing his daily updates to learn more.
Reminds me of a quote by G Harry Stine, an SF writer and one of the early aerospace engineers (rockets!). He was consulting to an aerospace company, and was asked about a particular open position, “Do we really need a Ph.D. or will just a Masters do?” Apparently Harry replied “How about just getting someone who can DO the job?” I believe he didn’t last long at that company.
“climate predictions belong to chaos theory, that is, unpredictable.” That is what I was always told.
Even when a person has all the latest tech stuff on hand, it helps to know what has happened before. Joe, and some others, use analog years to get through the choas you speak of.
Here is an example:
Pete Parsons, Oregon, Forestry
For Pete’s latest (12/22/17; another due soon), he used 1963, 1968, & 2006.
[Anyone know what Michelangelo’s Ph. D. was in, and wherefrom? Or Newton’s?]

The best education is what you do after school
PhD = Piled Higher and Deeper.
Oh, and Doc, please tell your iPhone nobody cares.
jvigo
Joe has a BS in meteorology, the study of weather. He is not predicting climate 100 years from now. He is predicting weather a few days ahead. What do you study in environmental science? Do you publish papers in chaos theory? I hope your environmental science is more than predictions of environmental catastrophes 100 years from now
There are lots of people in academia with knowledge piled higher and deeper in their brains, who, practically speaking, can’t think their way out of a paper bag. In the religious realm there are equivalents of whom it is said that they are so spiritually minded they are no earthly good.
I prefer the paper copies. If the electric grid goes down because the CAGWers got that to happen, I’ll still be able to read by the light of my oil lamp or candles, and the digital readers won’t be available if there’s no electricity to charge them… or their batteries are destroyed by a Warmian EMP… or whatever else shows up in the Fahrenheit 415 world of Climate Crazypants Catastrophes.
This is mostly for Griff, an introduction to Joe Bastardi, but also for the group.
Joe was the first morning’s Keynote Speaker at ICCC-7, the Heartland Institute’s International Climate Change Conference-7, in Chicago. The YouTube video is
and Joe follows the introductions by Joe Bast and James Taylor.
Joe’s presentation begins at 19:47, but for me one of Joe’s highlights is from 29:44 to 30:40, where, using his season analog method, he mentions that the 2012 Accumulated Cyclone Energy will be low, but the main threat for hurricanes for the USA will be storms that form closer to the Continental USA, and spin up and move up the Atlantic Coast rapidly, “sometimes those are the worst!” This, remember is on 21 May 2012, and before the Atlantic Hurricane Season had begun.
Griff, you really should spin up on Accumulated Cyclone Energy especially by reading Ryan Maue’s charts, Figure 4 in particular.
http://wx.graphics/tropical/
So, what was the biggest weather story for 2012? Probably “Superstorm” Sandy which spun up just south of Jamaica, crossed Jamaica and spun up rapidly as it crossed eastern Cuba, and after an eight or so day history merged with an extratropical system and crossed into New Jersey as a non-tropical but huge storm.
Joe was correct! This was clearly the threat and not one of the Cape Verde storms which spins up off the coast of Africa, and moves across the entire Atlantic; it formed and spun up rapidly close to the USA.
And, Joe continues to be correct!
Full Disclosure: I first met Joe as the son of Matthew Bastardi when Matt and I were Meteorology students at Texas A&M in 1963; even as an 8-year old kid, “Joey” was intensely interested in the weather.
ROBERT W. ENDLICH
Robert, I like your effort and that is a great video. However people like Griff will state that Heartland Institute is a right wing anti-sciene institution and will not watch or read anything from them. That way he can appear to be intellectual without seeing a view but his own. The leftists do this in all areas. If you reference an organization that they do not agree with they discount the organization and refuse to expand their knowledge.
The really interesting passages in the Exxon counter suit are those which make the point that there is no evidence the claimants actually believe their claims about the climate. The suit points to their conduct, not just what they say in their bond prospectuses, but also how they behave about their local oil and gas industries.
This tallies with my own impressions. There is no evidence anyone believes it. No-one draws the logical conclusions for action that people who did believe it would do.
The only version available is: Paperback, Large Print, January 2, 2018. Large print only. Does that mean his target audience is those that are old they need large print to read. Hey, I am insulted, wait no I guess I am not. 🙂
I have been following Joe B every day for the last decade, from when he was at Accuweather now with WeatherBELL. This includes 1000’s of videos and graphics predicting not only the when but the why. He is not right with all of his predictions every year, but sure does beat any other web site or government agency. Just like Joe B, I have a big passion for weather. I have used his teleconnections logic and graphics, along with Dr Maue superior weather maps, to teach my high school students a real application of using the scientific method daily. Thanks to Joe B, I have become a “weather expert” in my high school, and everyday I am asked to predict the weather, either short term or seasonly that includes students, teachers and administrators. When these weather predictions come true, such as following a little storm off the coast of Africa weeks before it becomes Hurricane Harvey, it gives me credibility. It also gives me a saying I learned from Joe B, “That’s the weather, I hope you enjoyed it because it’s the only weather you have”. Thanks Joe B and Joe D at WeatherBELL for sharing your knowledge, love and passion along with your snippy remarks on politics for all of these years. You have changed my life and thousands of my high students for the better.
Correction, “You have changed my life and thousands of my high SCHOOL students for the better.”
“Predictions?” He doesn’t make those. He “forecast”. His best (educated, experienced) guess at what the weather will be.
He may use weather models as input but he beats “climate models” all to hell.
He depends on getting it right, not politically correct.
(“Politcally Correct”. I sure wish that term had something to do with the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights.)
“Politcally Correct”. Maybe I should have said “Politically Profitable”?
