A man who police say has been a source of anti-social behaviour in Pontypridd and the Rhondda for “a number of years” has been given a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Philip Newton, of no fixed abode, has been given the three-year order after a number of offences that include verbally abusing hospital workers.

Police said on Monday the order means Newton, 38, must not use abusive or threatening language or behaviour likely to cause alarm, harassment and distress towards any other person.

It also means he must leave any location if controlled by a public or private body and someone with relevant authority requests him to leave, as well as engage with integrated offender intervention service and comply with all aspects of conditions imposed on him.

PC Anthony Ferguson, anti-social behaviour officer for South Wales Police , said: “Newton has been a source of anti-social behaviour for a number of years. His behaviour has had a negative impact on a number of services in partner agencies who have tried to assist him.

“This has included verbal abuse towards staff at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. His behaviour cannot be tolerated and the CBO should give some much needed reassurance to those who deal with Newton and try and assist him as well as the communities in the Rhondda.”
