By Brian Bayless on 18th January 2018
November 24, 1990
From the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, IN
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper
This week, we will see Tito Santana vs. Sgt. Slaughter. Also in action are The Legion of Doom, Mr. Perfect, Dustin Rhodes, and Rick Martel. Plus, highlights from last night’s Ultimate Warrior vs. Ted DiBiase match.
Mr. Perfect w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Reno Riggins
We see Heenan in an insert promo telling Bossman he meant his apology but now apologizes for not kicking his teeth in when he had the chance. Riggins frustrates Mr. Perfect then gets chopped in the corner. Riggins reverses an Irish whip and hits a slam and a dropkick. He follows with a hip toss but Perfect sweeps the ring and stretches it out for a bit. Perfect goes over to Heenan to get his face toweled down then uses a Perfect Plex for the win (2:00).
Thoughts: An enjoyable little match. Riggins was a solid worker but too short for any sort of push in this era of wrestling.
WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. This week we hear from WWF President Jack Tunney as he tells us that Mr. Fuji breached ethics by having Demolition interfere in the Legion of Doom vs. Orient Express match. So, Demolition will only be allowed to have two members going forward as they are also placed on probation. We did not find out which two members would be part of the team. Also, Fuji will team up with The Orient Express to face LoD in a handicap match.
Davey Boy Smith vs. Paul Diamond
The announcers talk about the Gobbledy Gooker then we hear from Davey in an insert promo as he thanks the fans for their support. Vince also lets us know that the “Brother Love Show” will not take place this week as Piper says he is now managing “Kane.” Davey takes control early and quickly puts Diamond away with a running powerslam (1:13).
Thoughts: The big news happened on commentary with the announcers mentioning the two Survivor Series surprises. And yes, The Undertaker was going to be called Kane then Kane the Undertaker but they decided on just “The Undertaker.” However, this show and the following episode were part of the same tapings that took place before the change.
“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Pez Whatley
Vince says that Jake Roberts is standing by in the dressing room then we see him in an insert promo. Jake says he does not have any plans other than taking what Martel took from him. Martel beats on Whatley and tosses him outside. Martel maintans control until he walks into a dropkick. Martel does pull up on a second attempt then turns Whatley over for a Boston Crab and the win (2:49).
Thoughts: More hype for the Jake/Martel feud.
An ad to see live shows airs.
Dustin Rhodes w/ Dusty Rhodes vs. Black Demon
Demon is Jose Luis Rivera under a mask. He tries a sneak attack but Dustin fights back and dropkicks him through the ropes. Dustin suplexes Demon back into the ring as we hear from Ted DiBiase with Virgil in an insert promo telling Dustin & Dusty everyone has a price as Dustin hits a bulldog for the win (1:13).
Thoughts: An easy win for Dustin but the Rhodes family run will be ending soon as Dusty would take over Ole Anderson’s job as Booker of WCW.
Legion of Doom vs. Black Bart & Kent Carlson
LoD attack their opponents right after the bell. They beat on Carlson, with the announcers pretending that the Gobbledy Gooker was popular at the Survivor Series, then put him away with the Doomsday Device (1:37).
Thoughts: Same as every other LoD squash match win but hearing the announcers trying to paint the Gooker’s debut as successful was quite amusing.
Clips of DiBiase vs. Warrior from “The Main Event.” This also showed the promos at the end of the show by Savage and Warrior to hype up their feud.
Tito Santana vs. Sgt. Slaughter w/ Gen. Adnan
Adnan yells at the crowd in his native tongue before the match. The crowd cheers for Tito as he gets beat down by Slaughter. Vince says that Adnan was an Olympic wrestler for Iraq as Tito makes his comeback. He works the arm then both men fight in the corner. Slaughter gets whipped into the corner and Tito covers for two then goes back to the arm. Tito fires away then hits the flying forearm and goes for the cover but Adnan makes the save with his flag. Tito gets pissed and tries to grab Adnan but Slaughter grabs him and hits a back suplex the puts on the Camel’s Clutch for the win (3:34) *1/2. After the match, Slaughter & Adnan tie Tito up in the ropes and rough him up before saying he’s a “Mexican-American” that does not belong here in America and probably got here by swimming across the river. Slaughter then wants all other ethnic groups out of his conutry and demands Tito salute the Iraqi flag. Tito spits on the flag and gets the pole jammed into his ribs then Jim Duggan runs out for the save and spits on the flag himself before stomping it as Slaughter is going nuts. Duggan tells Slaughter the USA welcomes its arms to the rich and poor around the world and talks about those serving in the Middle East as he will not let Slaughter desecrate his country and flag. He then leads the crowd into a “U-S-A” chant.
Thoughts: The action was fine but the big story was a new Duggan/Slaughter feud. The crowd loved Duggan as they are really amping up Slaughter’s Iraqi sympathizer act something fierce.
The Barbarian w/ Bobby Heenan vs. Jeff Kramer
We hear from Big Bossman in an insert promo telling Heenan there is no family member that can stop him from ringing his neck. Barbarian beats on Kramer and takes him down with a big boot before putting him away with a flying clothesline (1:08).
Thoughts: More of the Bossman/Heenan storyline here as Heenan tries to hide behind his men so Bossman cannot get him.
Brother Love returns next week with guest Jim Duggan. In action next week are the Orient Express, Tugboat, and the Texas Tornado. Also, Brother Love will present Kane to us and the Gobbledy Gooker will also be on the show.
Final Thoughts: With the Survivor Series past us the shows now have more focus. Slaughter’s new feud is with Duggan, Demolition is down to two members, and a few hints at what happened during the Survivor Series were dropped. Expect more Survivor Series fallout in the coming weeks then hype for the Royal Rumble PPV.
