After facing off against Cipher (and seemingly turning against his family) in this year’s The Fate of the Furious, fans might have wondered what’s next for Dom Toretto. The surprising answer? Racing alongside players of the popular battle-racing game Anki Overdrive.
The Anki Overdrive: Fast & Furious Edition was originally announced in April, with the game — that lets players control a robotic “supercar” via mobile app, racing against other users or AI-controlled opponents on a modular track designed, built and able to be adapted and upgraded at any point by players — partnering with the movie franchise for a race unlike any other.
The Fast & Furious Edition includes two specially-designed supercars based on vehicles driven by Dom (Vin Diesel) and Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) in the movies — the Ice Charger and MXT, for those curious for details — as well as gameplay that allows players to race against (or alongside) Hobbs, Dom, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Tej (Ludacris). Additionally, the kit includes track pieces and accessories, including an exclusive “Power Zone” track piece that disables any other car close by when triggered, and 12 guardrails, which aren’t included in the original Launch Kit.
To accompany the launch trailer, Anki has opened pre-orders on the Fast & Furious Edition ahead of its September release. For a limited time, those who pre-order for $169.99 will also receive the $29.99 Launch Kit for free. More information — including the lowdown on the supercars and their secret weapons — can be found here.
