• PA Manufacturers’ Assoc: NatGas Demand Going up 40% Next 10 Yrs. Yesterday the 11th “Think About Energy” Briefing was held at Misericordia University, near Wilkes-Barre, PA. The session aimed to provide an update on the economic and environmental benefits of PA natural gas, and was organized/sponsored by Borton-Lawson, Cabot Oil & Gas, UGI Energy Services, UGI Utilities, and Williams, in conjunction with ACT for America and the Back Mountain Chamber of Commerce.
• Portland City Council costs the city $4.5 million in pursuit of “simpler life”. Seeking to “make life simpler,” Portland’s City Council voted unanimously last week to cave in to the demands of divestment activists and “not invest in any corporations period.” Apparently, the prospect of abdicating their civic duty and costing the city millions of dollars a year was more attractive than dealing with increasingly aggressive divestment activists.
• GOOGLE: ANTI-FRACKING ACTIVISM IS FAKE NEWS.  To whom it may concern:  According to a recent report in Bloomberg News, Google is “making a rare, sweeping change to the algorithm behind its powerful search engine to demote misleading, false, and offensive articles online.” (1) In your company’s official release, you noted that you would be targeting “content on the web [that] has contributed to the spread of blatantly misleading, low quality, offensive or downright false information.”
• Marcellus DUCs Lay Golden Eggs for Northeast Drillers. We’ve written a number of times about DUCs–otherwise known as drilled-but-uncompleted wells. When a shale driller drills a new well, it doesn’t always happen all in one go. You first drill the hole down, and then curve the drillbit and drill the horizontal portion–called the lateral. Then you pull the drill bit out of the ground and (at some point) the fracking process begins. Fracking doesn’t always happen right away.
• Another 7 Easements Signed for Shell’s Falcon Ethane Pipeline. Last year MDN shared details about Shell’s Falcon Ethane Pipeline system–a pipeline with two “legs” that will feed Shell’s mighty ethane cracker plant in Beaver County, PA. Before the pipeline system had a name (Falcon), Shell had begun the process of signing up landowners to allow the pipeline to cross their property–as far back as February 2016.
• Fracker Keane Group Continues Expansion, Buys RockPile Energy. Keane Group is a Texas-based oilfield services company that provides fracking, wireline and top-hole air drilling services to oil and gas companies in the Marcellus/Utica as well as several other major basins. In January 2016, Keane announced they were buying out Canadian-based Trican Well Service for $247 million. The expansion tripled Keane’s fracking capacity and gave it access to proprietary new technology.
