Abstract: Objective The microvascular decompression (MVD) is an effective method for the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia (trigeminal Neuralgia,TN),but much controversy over MVD prognostic factors still exists. In this paper, the efficacy of MVD was observed within 5 years of follow-up,and the statistical methods were used to screen the possible prognostic factors. Methods The primary TN patients first treated by microvascular decompression from December 2011 to January 2015 were followed up at least once a year and all the data were collected and analyzed by Logistic regression analysis to identify the possible prognostic factors. Results In patients, typical trigeminal neuralgia patients with post-operative pain immediate complete remission rate was 79.8% and the pain complete remission rate was 88.0% during the follow-up for more than two years;and the atypical trigeminal neuralgia patients pain of immediate relief rate was 71.8% and pain complete remission rate was only 45.0% during the follow-up for more than 2 years.Logistic regression analysis found that the typical symptoms of TN,the responsibility of blood vessels or the main responsibility for the artery,post-operative pain relief was the favorable factors (P < 0.05).Conclusion MVD is an effective surgical procedure for the treatment of primary TN.The characteristic symptoms of TN,the responsible vessels and immediate relief of pain after surgery are the favorable factors for the prognosis of the patients.
