Readers have voiced their displeasure after eight caravans and their owners took up residence at a beauty spot car park.
The travellers’ presence at the Swansea Council-owned pay and display car park at Bracelet Bay in Mumbles , where they have set up gas barbecues, washing lines and toilets, was reported on Tuesday morning.
People took to Swansea Online’s Facebook page yesterday to question what was being done about the camp which is taking up spaces where the daily charge to park a car is £5.
Jayne Matthews Thomas said: “I’d like to see how fast the council would get us (the rate payers of Swansea) moved on if we decided to have a caravan holiday in a car park in Gower !”
Amy Murray said: “They just park where they want yet if we pulled up with a caravan and parked anywhere we like we would either be charged or moved on by the police.”
Lee Rees added: “If I didn’t pay £1.50 an hour I would have a fine straight away lets see if they act that quick with this lot!”
Swansea Council however said it is continuing to enforce car parking regulations as normal.
Other readers were far less concerned about the travellers’ presence however.
Kim Duncan said: “At the end of the day they are travellers....that’s their way of life.....some people choose to live in a caravan and others choose to live in a house.”
Demi Maclachlan offered a different view, saying: “Who cares.... no one has died or in any sort of danger! This country has far more worries than this.”
WalesOnline approached the travellers for comment but no-one was available yesterday.
A Swansea Council spokesman said: “We are continuing to enforce our car parking regulations in all council car parks, including the one at Bracelet Bay.”
