Abstract: Objective To investigate the efficacy of low-temperature?plasma assisted surgery combined with modified uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP),tongue volume reduction and selective nasal cavity dilatation for cases with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) at moderate to severe degrees based on a retrospective clinical analysis. Methods A retrospective analysis was made on 156 patients with OSAHS at moderate to severe degrees, treated in our Hospital from Oct.2013 to Feb.2016.These patients were divided into two groups according to the type of surgery that they undergone, with 78 cases in each group.Patients in observation group (OG) received low-temperature plasma assisted surgery combined with modified UPPP,tongue root volume reduction and selective nasal cavity dilatation, while those in control group (CG) were treated by classic UPPP and selective nasal cavity dilatation procedures. All these patients were followed up for 6 months after the surgery. Then,a comparative analysis was made on clinical therapeutic effect, operative complications and postoperative relapse between the two groups.Result The total effective rate was 80.77% for cases in OG and 61.54% for those in CG respectively, with statistical significance in the difference between them (P<0.05).Furthermore,the incidence of surgery associated complications was lower than that of CG and postoperative recovery of OG was superior to that of CG as well. Conclusion It is very satisfactory with the therapeutic effect of low-temperature?plasma assisted surgery combined with modified UPPP,tongue root volume reduction and selective nasal cavity dilatation to treat patients with OSAHS at moderate to severe degrees. Therefore, this procedure is worthy of promoting into clinical utilizing.
