This summer is already filled with an enormous amount of blockbusters, and it has barely started. In order to get the general public hyped about the movies coming out, the production companies pour a lot of money into advertising. That really goes without saying, but at times it seems like they’re cutting corners. You’re probably asking what I’m babbling on about, right? Well, take a look at these posters for Transformers: The Last Knight and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Who Made These Posters?
What are the first words that come to mind when you see these posters? The first thing I’d ask is, “What year is it? Is it 2002 again?” It looks like whoever was hired to create these posters for these upcoming titles didn’t really seem like they were giving it much effort. It literally seems like the graphic designer just grabbed screen clips and then pasted as much of the character cutouts, mushing them all together into the shot.
Making a movie takes a lot of time, money, resources, and dedication. Most of these movies usually gain their money back and sometimes it’s in the billions. If their movies can gain millions and up to billions of dollars, how come they can’t utilize their resources to get better graphic designers to create these posters? I mean, in this day and age, art is supposed to be going into a minimalist route, correct? Sometimes the simple path is the best.
For instance look at these past movie posters. They convey the movie really well with not that much cluttering the poster itself.
Even the previous Spider-Man: Homecoming posters did it better.
You can kind of already feel what the movie is about just by taking a quick gander at these past posters of popular movies. Moreover, they don’t need to shove every bloody character into the shot to let the audience know that certain actors or characters are in the film. You have the money, Hollywood! Get your shit together!
Transformers: The Last Knight comes to theaters on June 21, 2017.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7, 2017.
