Gear Review: Rinehart Rhino Bag

A Bag Full of Abilities

Most serious bowhunters own several archery targets to serve a variety of needs. When it comes to realistic bowhunting simulation, for example, you simply can't beat a life-sized 3-D deer, elk or bear.

When on the go, however, smaller, lighter and more portable options are required. Enter Rinehart's 18-inch Rhino Bag, a compact target that is short in stature but long on features that offer an impressive combination of key "abilities" archers value — shootability, portability, durability and affordability. One of the biggest selling points of bag targets is the easy, one-handed arrow removal the design offers.

The Rhino Bag excels in this area while offering plenty of stopping power for today's high-speed compound bows and crossbows via Dual Layer Power Core Technology. The shooting experience and target durability are further enhanced with a replaceable outer Rhino Skin shell made from weather- and UV-resistant polyester fabric. The Rhino Skin was designed to be far more durable than the polypropylene outer shells found on most bag targets, which quickly degrade in the sun and become brittle.

In addition, the Rhino Skin fabric allows for superior print quality featuring vivid red aiming points on the front and green aiming points on the back. The aiming points on the 18x18-inch shooting faces are offset to prolong target life, and the integrated Comfort Core handle makes it easy to get the target from your vehicle to wherever is serving as your shooting range for the day.

Behind the Rhino Skin is a protected polypropylene layer to further maintain target integrity, followed by a waterproof plastic layer, shock-absorbing cut foam blend and an arrow-stopping burlap core. I've shot the Rhino Bag extensively and consider it far superior to the average bag target. Although the Rhino Bag doesn't allow for broadhead shooting, it is significantly lighter than block-style foam targets, and with a price tag under $50, it is as easy on your wallet as it is on your arrows.  — Christian Berg
