15 Things You Should Never Say To a Vaper

How many inane comments have you heard from people when they see you with an e-cig?

No doubt you’ve heard dozens since you started vaping!

Here’s a few choice ones that we hear cropping up again and again…

1. “So, when are you giving up?”

So, when are you giving up.
One day, ONE DAY, people will understand that smoking and vaping are not the same thing.

2. “What’s your favourite oil?”

What's your favourite oil?
Not sure if they really don’t know what e-liquid is called, or if I’m being asked about my central heating preferences?

3. “Those things are far more addictive than real cigarettes.”

E-cigs are more addictive than real cigarettes don't you know!
Because nothing is more helpful than people making up scientific ‘facts’ on the spot. (And besides, the evidence suggests the opposite is true!)

4. “You can’t use that in here!”

You can't use your e-cig in here
Maybe we can put up some ‘No telling me what to do’ signs too?

5. “I just decided to quit without any help!”

I quit without any help. Why can't you?
Great story, really. Now please go away.

6. “Think of the children!”

Think of the Children
Because secretly all vapers really want to hang around outside schools blowing clouds in kids faces. (Hint: they don’t.)

7. “Why don’t you just quit?”

Why don't you just quit
Like seriously, I did, I just still happen to like nicotine. It’s NOT the same thing.

8. “I didn’t realise you were still a smoker!”

I didn't realise you're still a smoker
Ok now this is just getting silly.

9. “Those things are worse than fags. I know it must be true cos’ I read it in the Daily Mail.”

I read it in the Daily Mail, must be true...
Ahh yes, the one thing more helpful than people making up scientific ‘facts’ on the spot? People reporting them in the press.

10. “What flavour is that – clown farts?”

Is that clown fart flavour
Remember when people claimed the worst thing about smoking was the smell of tobacco?
Well now people complain that e-cigs don’t smell like tobacco. Go figure.

11. “Are you still on those joke fags?”

Still on those joke fags
Yes it’s all part of my act, just wait till you see my giant shoes and flower that squirts water.

12. “I just used willpower to quit!”

Just use willpower stupid
Well done, honestly, but what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for all. Vive la difference.

13. “You just don’t know what’s in those things!”

you don't know what's in e-cigs
Well actually I do, it’s printed on the bottle, but don’t let that get in the way of your wild speculation.

To an avid vaper

14. “So, how much have you saved vaping?”

how much have you saved by vaping?
Yes, we hate to admit that this can all get pretty expensive but hey … we all need a hobby don’t we?

To someone with a high powered device:

15. What kind of vape pen is that?
Cue half an hour lecture on why it’s not a ‘vape pen’.

#
Because never ask a serious vaper stupid questions unless you want a half hour science lecture and a slide show on the complete history of vaping mythology, or something.

Hahaha.. my husband was one of those complainers on the smell of e cigarettes. He didn't complain about coming home and having the house smell like a bakery when I wasn't cooking, but when vaping really started taking off at his work the smoking section stopped smelling like cigarettes.. and omg he would come home every night complaining about the smoking section smelling like darn blueberries..

when he started vaping he was vaping tobacco flavors, and letting all the fruit flavor vapers try it .. I think he still secretly wants to convert them all into tobacco flavor vapers so that the blueberry pollution of the smoking area goes down!

Hahaha..

My mom and even my doctor told me that "vaping is just as bad as smoking", so it must be true.

Re: vaping vs smoking cost, I think many of us on ECF and other vaping sites are different animals than the other 95% of vapers. Most vapers I know buy a $15 bottle of juice every week or two and own one mod/tank that likely cost them $50-80. They save a fortune!

Personally, I own over a dozen authentic mechs that average $100 each, a dozen Provaris, lots of clone mechs and a few regulated 200W+ mods, at least 40 tanks, a couple hundred replacement coils for stock, thousands of feet of wire, cotton and rayon for life, dozens of batteries, gallons of PG/VG, about 4l of 100mg nic and approx 60 different Flavours for DIY. And lots of spart parts. After only vaping for a year and a half (and just over a year for my wife) we STILL saved $$$ over the $7000 we were spending a year on butts.

Unless one Vapes 10ml+ of high end juice a day and collects super high end mods and tanks, I can't see a PAD or more smoker NOT saving money.

I think it depends on the cost of cigarettes in your area how much you save. I only spent 200 a month on smokes, because I was only spending 40.00 a carton on my area.

The first two years I vaped, I only spent an average of 25.00 a month on vaping - your right in saying most people on this site are different animals when it comes to gear..

So, for those two years I saved about 2100 a year..

Now, this year.. it's a whole different story.. I have already this year spent an entire year's worth of smokes in dollar amount.

However, with just a little more expenditure I'll be set for not spending much more at all for at least the next 10 years, and have all high end gear... lol.. so in the end, your right, it doesn't much matter how much you spend, there is always some savings over smoking, and that amount is up to the user..

Some people though, get downright ridiculous in how little they are willing to spend on vaping..

There was someone in a Facebook group asking people how to fix his 50 dollar mod that he had owned and used for quite some time. I was like, if you cannot afford to spend a hundred dollars a year to keep your gear updated and in safe working condition sans jury rigging crap mods to work (with unknown safety) beyond their life expectancy, then you can't afford to vape. Then I asked how much he spent on smokes every month and asked him to compare that to spending a hundred dollars a year for gear plus e juice and pointed out it was not a ridiculous amount of money to set aside in expenditure in order to vape safely.

I do hope he went and bought a new mod.. lol..

I get a lot crap for a lot of things I do cause I'm an all in kind of person. I'll take it.. who cares I'm not hurting anyone. People don't like different.

"You're going to blow your face off with that thing"

"I heard those can blow up"

"Those cause pneumonia"

"That has to be bad for you"

"That's just crazy"

"You've lost your mind"

People who smoke and don't want to quit are the worst. It just blows my mind when a smoker says that has to be bad for you cause yea that cig is so healthy, right.

It took me a while to start saving that money. I ran and chased the next great thing and many pre-made flavorsfor far too long. Once I settled in on a REO, an RM2 and DIY juice, those savings became real and substantial.

As to "safety", I don't really know and I never will. "Doing my research" as so many counsel us, I concluded that no one else knows either. I decided (read - formed a quasi informed opinion) that vaping was a "risk reduction" strategy rather than a "safe" strategy. In my opinion, there is a difference between safety and risk reduction. Being old fixed in my beliefs, I will find it neigh on to impossible to change my mind.

Exchange with my mother-in-law a few years ago when I started vaping:

Her: "That looks like smoke"
Me: "It's not smoke, it's vapor"
Her: "Well, it looks like smoke so it must be smoke"
Me: "Well, that candy bar you are eating looks like a dog turd, so..."

I agree. Anyone that believes vaping is "good for you" is nutty. Even if vaping is ONLY 75% safer than smoking (let alone 95%), I'm vaping. If I didn't vape, I would still be smoking.

"that makes you look sooo cool!"

Still waiting for that one. But, I'm an optimist.

"you quit a 35 year addiction over two years ago?, wow you must have the energy to have sex all night again"

Ya, I'm a bigger optimist! lol

"You're going to get popcorn lung" Coming from someone with a cigarette in their hand and no idea that there was diacetyl in that cigarette in higher quantities than my liquid.

I have gotten into so many arguments with people over this, that now I just walk away (or don't respond online) and the worst part is they all source that Facebook "News Story" as their source.

I personally have save over $6000 and that is if a pack of smokes still cost the same as when I quit. I just did them math for fun the other day :D

The only argument I face is vaping in no smoking areas, vaping is not very widespread and the culture is still exclusive to the educated few who know what it is, thousands mind you, but still that security guy at the mall and the regular cab driver don't know, so I just opt to put it in my pocket instead of trying to lecture him on what vaping is and why it's different and shouldn't be banned, sometimes they let it slide out of fear or curiosity, but most times they just say no smoking please
