The Leftovers and Lost co-creator is in talks to adapt the popular 1980’s DC graphic novel Watchmen for the network, EW has confirmed. Having just wrapped his critically acclaimed HBO drama The Leftovers earlier this month, Lindelof would be shepherding a very different project with Watchmen. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ beloved limited comic series isn’t the traditional superhero project, as the story is set in an alternate universe, where the presence of superheroes has altered the course of history. In the story, while investigating the murder of one of their own, the group known as the “Watchmen” encounter a massive and deadly conspiracy. HBO declined to comment. Zack Snyder adapted the comic for the big screen in 2009. The film, which starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, and Jackie Earle Haley, grossed just over $185 million at the worldwide box office. In 2015, EW reported Snyder was in discussions to bring a Watchmen TV series to HBO, but the project never materialized. Lindelof’s possible adaptation is a completely new and separate iteration from Snyder’s. Along with serving as co-creator and showrunner on Lost and The Leftovers, Lindelof has been a writer on many high-profile films, including Prometheus, World War Z, and Star Trek Into Darkness.
