Though President Donald Trump has been loath to admit that Russia played a role in the 2016 election, leaked classified files from the National Security Agency show that Russian intelligence tried to hack the U.S. voting system ahead of the November election.

The Intercept published the documents on Monday. Within hours, the FBI announced that it had already arrested the alleged leaker, a 25-year-old NSA contractor named Reality Leigh Winner (yes, really).

As Late Show host Stephen Colbert pointed out Tuesday night, this doesn't help Trump's fake news narrative.

"Now all along Donald Trump has said the entire Russia story is fake news, and there is no way to know whether this document that was released is real, other than the fact that the leaker was immediately arrested," he said. Then, turning on his best Trump impression, he quipped, "Fake news, real prison."
