  • i think the reason i don’t like portal fantasies is the reason i’m drawn to writing them, which is that it always feels like such a teenage, self-insert fantasy, yes, even when you’re doing a different gender protagonist; also like, there’s really rarely a good reason for the protagonist to be drawn from one world to the other (for this I will take either a drawn-out, extremely detailed plan (I’m super fond of ‘hiding the special child in a different world’) or “lol idk they just did” and nothing in between). 

    so i think the reason i try to write them is that, like, I think if i could plot I could do a good one, i just hate 90% of the tropes associated with them
