UPDATE: Reward offered after 100+ guns stolen from pawn shop

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A reward is being offered after more than 100 guns were stolen from a pawn shop in Barboursville.

According to West Virginia State Police Tuesday, a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is behind the burglary at Sportsmen's Gun & Pawn on May 15.

Troopers say burglars made a hole in the wall to get into the shop, then made away with more than 100 guns.

They also came through the ceiling of the Giovanni's Pizza restaurant a few feet away and stole cash.

State police tell WSAZ burglars made a hole in the wall to get into Sportsmens Gun & Pawn, then made a hole in the ceiling to get into Giovanni’s Pizza in the same parking lot.

Donna Burgess' back fence ends just a few feet away from Sportsmens. It's hard to miss all the police activity just outside her fence.

"I can't believe it," she said.

WVSP say someone broke into the side of Sportsmens Gun and Pawn on Route 60 and made away with more than 100 guns.

But that's not all. They also came through the ceiling of the Giovanni's Pizza restaurant a few feet away and stole cash.

"Unnerving,” said Burgess. “I'm not against guns but I'm for responsibility of guns, somebody is responsible for them."

It's also unnerving for businesses across the street, like realtor Brooke Mullins with Real Estate Central LLC. She also lives nearby with her two kids.

"It really hits close to home when things like that happen," she said. "That's very scary, very scary. We have enough problems around here with shootings. This just adds to the problems."

Mullins is going to notify all the agents to be extra careful. Working extra late or on the weekends is just part of the job.

"But we'll definitely be locking the doors tightly from now on," she said.

Mullins and others told us they usually feel safe, but knowing 100+ extra guns are on the street now, which weren't there Sunday, isn't comforting.

"I think it's concerning because you never know who has a hold of them," said Linda Perry. She’s the owner’s wife at DirtBusters who also can be there at odd hours doing bookkeeping work.

“I will probably be a lot more careful of it being there for that reason,” she said.

The guns on the street is what bothers Burgess.

"It affects us all."

She works in a hospital trauma unit at times and knows the damage guns can do -- whether to hurt someone directly, be sold for drug money or used in a robbery.

"I hear people talk about drugs or criminal activity and say, 'Well it didn't happen to me' or 'It doesn't affect me,' but it does."

The owner of Sportsmens Gun & Pawn and Giovanni's declined to be interviewed.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives or ATF is the lead agency investigating the case.

The Field Division out of Louisville, Kentucky told WSAZ that, as of late Monday afternoon, agents were still tallying up what was stolen and trying to get fingerprints and other evidence.

Burglars broke into the Sportsmens Gun & Pawn Shop on Route 60 in Barboursville through the side of building by making a hole in the wall, according to WVSP.

A pizza shop beside the gun and pawn was broken into as well. Cash was taken from the shop.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Investigators are working to find out exactly how many guns and other items were stolen.
