'I sing a nice song': Ed Sheeran drops HUGE spoiler on Game Of Thrones surprise cameo as he makes an appearance for fan Maisie Williams

It is perhaps no surprise Ed Sheeran is going to sing when he makes his debut on Game Of Thrones.

But the record-breaking artist, 26, let slip details of his five-minute cameo appearance on for the HBO TV show.

He told The Hits Radio: 'I do a scene with Maisie. I sing a song and then she goes, "oh, that's a nice song".'

While it may seem like a small nugget of information, Ed's latest titbit was quickly trending on social media.

No doubt his moment on the show will have a significant part to play as songs are often hinged on key moments in the program.

For instance, when The Bear And The Maiden Fair is played when Jaime Lannister and Brienne develop a bond after they have been captured.

But the flame-haired songwriter kept tight lipped about the lyrics and the any further details of the song, leaving it shrouded in mystery.

It was announced last month that he had filmed a cameo appearance on the hit HBO serie as a surprise for actress Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark.

Fan would have been delighted on Friday when the cheeky chap confirmed he is not killed on the show.

Admitting to the Daily Star he does not die during his 'five minutes' on the show, he went on to confess that he would 'prefer to have sex' in one of the series' famously saucy scenes, rather than meet a gruesome end.

Revealing a few details about his upcoming role, he told the paper:  'I do know which role I am going to play. I don't die in it, I don't die.'

He went on to admit that in true cameo style, he was appearance was very brief, stating: 'I'm only in it for like five minutes.'

However the Shape Of You singer continued that he is not disappointed his character survives, as he had never wanted to partake in one of the show's trademark bloody scenes.

He added: 'I'd probably prefer to have sex than die in the show. I'm sure a lot of people are into that (have sex and die) but I'm not.'

Ed also confessed he had been inspired to join the show for an episode after his friend Gary Lightbody, lead singer of Snow Patrol, did the same back in 2012.

Speaking at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas last month, co-creator David Benioff explained that the actress, who plays Arya Stark, is a big fan of the songwriter - and his casting was all for her.

He explained: 'For years we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie and this year we finally did it.'

The seventh season, which the red-headed singer stars in, makes its debut in July this year, while the eighth and final season is thought to hit screens in 2018.

Stepping down from the show after such huge success, Benioff acknowledged that HBO may want to produce a spin-off without himself and co-creator Dan Weiss at the helm.

'I think HBO might well do [another series] and I look forward to watching it and I think it be great but I think they should get new blood in,' he said.

The appearance only adds to Ed's incredibly hectic schedule, following the release of his chart-topping album Divide

On Friday the singer took to the stage in Amsterdam as part of his tour for the record - where he was supported by Coleen Rooney, who celebrated her 31st birthday at the gig.

Coleen took to her Instagram to excitedly share a selfie of the pair backstage at the Ziggo Dome, which she captioned: 'Thanks for all the lovely birthday messages yesterday. Had a lovely day and an amazing night at Ed Sheeran's concert.'
