Tumblr is dedicated to realizing the most radical, founding principles of Internet culture: individuality, freedom of expression, and human connection. Fundamental to all of that is trust and transparency between ourselves and our users.

Publishing this semi-annual report is one of the ways we reaffirm that trust.

As with previous editions, this report comes in two parts. The first is a review of requests for user information from governments foreign and domestic between July and December of 2016. The second part covers any copyright or trademark claims we’ve received during that same time.

This time around, we received a total of 258 requests for user information, relating to 317 different blogs. That’s 0.00009% of all blogs on Tumblr. To put that in perspective, you’re about as likely to be subject to a request as you are to be killed by a kangaroo.

It’s that time. Time again for the semi-annual Tumblr Transparency Report. Don’t act like you don’t know the drill. 

This year’s thrilling epic comes in two parts: Tumblr’s Government Transparency Report disclosing government requests and Tumblr’s Copyright and Trademark Transparency Report for July – December 2019 disclosing copyright and takedown requests. You already know the deal. It’s our semi-annual Transparency Report! 

Like last year, our Transparency Report comes in two parts. Part one discloses all of those sweet, sweet deets surrounding copyright and trademark takedowns from July through December 2018. It’s called Tumblr’s Copyright and Trademark Transparency Report, because we value transparency in our document titles, too.

When you’re ready for part two, mosey on over to Oath’s combined Transparency Report, which covers government requests for user data and for content removal received by all of Oath’s brands, including Yahoo, AOL, and—hello—Tumblr.

Tumblr is committed to transparency, expression, and our community and we are always looking for ways to enhance the information we share with our users and the public. Well, folks, here’s one thing you can count on, 2020 or not. it’s time for our first Transparency Report of this alternate timeline we’re calling 2020.

It’s the same Tumblr Copyright and Trademark Transparency Report you’ve all come to know and love, but for January to June this year. So, turn off that show you’re binge-watching, make your favorite orange-cinnamon tea, and settle in for a read. Or don’t, that’s up to you. It’s here in case you need it, along with all the other reports, in handy six-month chunks.

Ahhh, a fresh Transparency Report has arrived. 

Autumn is upon us once again. The leaves are turning, the ice cream trucks are gone, and the most hellish election cycle in memory is coming to a close. It must be time for Tumblr’s semi-annual Transparency Report.

As with previous editions, this report comes in two parts. The first is a review of requests for user information from governments foreign and domestic between January and June of 2016. The second part covers any copyright or trademark claims we’ve received during that same time.

Need some numbers to whet your statistical appetite? Okay. We received a total of 274 requests for user information from federal, local, and international governments, relating to 384 different blogs. That’s 0.0001% of all blogs on Tumblr, which means any given blog has about one-in-a-million chance of being subject to a request—slightly less likely than your chance of being killed by a meteorite. Hm!

Within the report, you’ll find all of the finest details surrounding these takedowns from January through June 2019. We know you’re overwhelmed by the excitement. Just take a deep breath before you read it.

It’s springtime here in New York—birds are singing, bees are buzzing, and love is in the air. It can only mean one thing: It’s time for the latest edition of our Transparency Report, covering July through December, 2015. As with previous editions, this report contains information about all of the requests for user information we’ve received from governments foreign and domestic, as well as all of the copyright and trademark claims we’ve received over the past six months.

So…wanna hear some of the numbers? We received 215 requests for user data or content from 12 foreign countries, 38 U.S. states or the U.S. federal government. These requests affected 0.0013% of all blogs on Tumblr. That means that you’re seven times more likely to win an Academy Award than to be directly affected by these requests.

We just published the latest edition of our Transparency Report, covering July to December 2014. It’s an ongoing record of the requests for user information that we get from U.S. and international government agencies. Since you’re a user here, you should know who’s asking for this information, what exactly they’re asking for, and whether or not we’re giving it to them.

We get into much more detail in the report, but overall there hasn’t been a significant increase in the number of requests: 197 for this period, compared with 193 in the previous period. Some of these requests covered multiple blogs—269 in all. That’s just 0.000001% of all blogs on Tumblr.

While you’re about ten times more likely to be injured by a drinking straw than to be directly affected by these requests, we’re resolutely committed to communicating how we balance user privacy with our obligations under the law. It’s our responsibility to you. This Transparency Report is that responsibility made manifest. Enjoy.
