Utah man jailed for alleged death threats against Trump

A Utah man has been jailed for allegedly making death threats against President Trump and others, CNN reported on Wednesday.

A federal jury indicted Travis Luke Dominguez, 33, on 11 counts, including threatening to kill the president and threatening to harm police officers if they tried to stop him.

Each count carries a maximum ten-year sentence, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

Dominguez, who claimed he was a Navy SEAL, is currently in Utah state prison as he awaits his first appearance in court, according to an indictment obtained by CNN.

“I woke up and decided going to kill the president Donald Trump today. Please forgive me and then I will die by suicide by cop,” Dominguez is quoted as saying in the indictment. “I’m going to kill the sexist racist homophobic President Trump today. Nothing you can do to save President Trump nor stop me pigs.” 

Dominguez’s threat came on the same day that Trump was visiting Utah to announce the federal government’s decision to shrink two national monuments in the state, the U.S. attorney’s office told CNN. 

The jury’s indictment also included charges against Dominguez for making threats through law enforcement tip lines to harm people attending a local theater. He also allegedly made threats to hit other businesses with explosives and firearms. 

Police arrested Dominguez when he came near the theater after making internet threats on New Year’s Eve. 

Trump shrank both the Bears Ears national monument — which was designated by former President Obama — and the Grand Staircase-Escalante national monument last month by thousands of acres.
