The 2023/24 Big Bash League begins on December 7 with a match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars at the Gabba. Here’s the full list of English players in the upcoming BBL 2023/24 tournament.

The 13th BBL is all set to get underway on December 7 and will continue until January 24. The assembly line of quality English white-ball players makes the country a go-to option for franchises to fill their overseas spots. In BBL 2023/24, as many as 14 England players will participate across eight teams.

Harry Brook and Rehan Ahmed are among the prominent England cricketers who have already withdrawn from this year’s BBL having previously signed deals to participate citing workload management.

Tom Curran – Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers have retained Tom Curran, whose last BBL appearance was back in the 2021/22 edition. Curran has been instrumental in the Sixers’ success over the years, and his pace-bowling variations alongside lower-order batting credentials make him a potent weapon.

Curran put in a sensational performance in the final of the Hundred 2023 season, Curran notched an unbeaten 67 off 34 balls in a 127-run stand with James Neesham to become the Player of the Match and seal the title for the Oval Invincibles in the process.

Chris Jordan – Hobart Hurricanes

Chris Jordan will don the Hobart Hurricanes’ colours this year. He is expected to complement a formidable pace lineup comprising tearaway quick Riley Meredith and current Australian T20I representative Nathan Ellis. With wily death bowling skills, Jordan adds impetus to the franchise’s hunt for a maiden BBL title.

David Payne – Adelaide Strikers

Named as a replacement for injured Rashid Khan, who has recently undergone lower back surgery, David Payne will ply his trade for the Adelaide Strikers in BBL 2023/24. The left-arm pacer was a part of the Perth Scorchers’ triumphant BBL 12 squad, scalping ten times in six outings.

Liam Dawson – Melbourne Stars

Melbourne Stars have opted for the services of spin-bowling all-rounder Liam Dawson as a partial replacement for Harry Brook, who pulled out of the competition to manage his workload. With 2,457 runs under his belt besides 191 wickets in 245 T20s, Dawson will make his Big Bash debut and feature in the opening three matches for the Stars in the upcoming season.

Alex Hales – Sydney Thunder

Alex Hales is a seasoned campaigner in the Big Bash League, having amassed the most runs by a non-Australian batter in the tournament.  Hales has piled on 1,747 runs for the Syndey Thunder at an average of 35.63 while striking a 150.73.

Jamie Overton – Adelaide Strikers

Jamie Overton will join the talented crop of pacers in the Adelaide Strikers’ camp besides providing plenty of assistance with the bat, something the team will welcome given their underwhelming campaign in 2022/23. Overton blazed 202 runs at a strike-rate of over 180 in the 2023 Hundred.

Sam Hain – Hobart Hurricanes

Sam Hain has been picked by Hobart Hurricanes this year. While turning up for the Brisbane Heat the previous season, he had an outstanding outing with the bat, scoring at an average of 45.25 across nine matches.

Overall, in T20s, Hain has 3,605 runs under his belt at an average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 134.81, including 27 fifties.

James Vince – Sydney Sixers

James Vince has been the batting lynchpin for the Sixers lately. The elegant batter has scored 1,547 runs for the side at an average of 31.45 and a strike rate of 131.48. He performs exceedingly well at the SCG as his numbers at this ground read 651 runs at 38.29/136.19 and will enter Big Bash League 2023/24 on the back of good form in the Blast and Hundred.

Zak Crawley – Perth Scorchers

Having finally found his feet in international cricket after a strong Ashes 2023 campaign, Zak Crawley is a valuable addition to the Scorchers’ side, especially when they need a solid opener. While he struggled last time playing for the Hobart Hurricanes, the latest season could be his breakthrough year.

Sam Billings – Brisbane Heat

Sam Billings is a sound buy for the Heat, given his ability to churn out runs in the middle overs against spin at a decent rate. In 37 innings at the BBL, Billings has 1,014 runs at an average of 30.73 and a handsome strike-rate of 141.62.

Paul Walter – Brisbane Heat

Paul Walter’s all-round credentials make him a valuable pick for the Heat. In 112 T20s, Walter has 1,551 runs while striking at 143.87, besides 62 wickets at 25.51 apiece while conceding 8.89 runs an over with his left-arm pace.

Adam Hose – Adelaide Strikers

Adam Hose will continue to play for the Strikers after a solid last edition with 312 runs. The middle-order batter had a decent Blast season in early 2023, scoring 397 runs at an average nearly touching 40.

Laurie Evans – Perth Scorchers

Laurie Evans was the player of the match in the final of the Scorchers’ triumphant BBL 2021/22 season for his unbeaten 76 against the Sydney Sixers. The season marks the return of Evans after missing the last edition due to a provisional doping suspension.

Joe Clarke – Melbourne Renegades

Joe Clarke switched allegiance to Melbourne Renegades in the latest edition of the BBL after briefly appearing for Perth Scorchers in 2020-21, before being a vital cog of Stars over the last two seasons with 800 runs at 30.76 and a strike-rate of 136.98.
