This week i made a wooden necklace or pendant whatever you want to call it, from some off cut scrap wood.

Turned out better than i had hoped and i wish you could feel how smooth it is!!

Step 1: Finding Some Crap and Cut to Size

I used an off cut from an upcoming video but you can pretty much use any scrap you can find.

I drew out a line no idea on the measurements it just looked right and cut that out.

Step 2: A Ton of Sanding

Now i had my piece it was time to sand.

I used 80 grit to get the shape right, just a small angle at the top, and went on to smoothing .

I went though 80, 120,240,500 & finished at 1,200 grit.

It should feel like glass at 1,200 grit.

Step 3: The Cord

To attach the cord i used some 1mm clear elastic cord and a 2mm hole just down from the top of the piece to avoid it splitting on me,

I made the necklace around 31" long but you can make it as long or short as you want.

Step 4: Seal the Cord

To seal the cord i used some clear heat shrink tubing over the end.

I mainly did this because i would never have been able to tie a knot in 1mm cord but it also looks a lot nicer than just a knot .

Just make sure you dont melt the cord or your fingers - its not fun when you do that!!

Step 5: Job Done

I finished it with around 4 coats of spray lacquer, sanding lightly at 1,200 grit in between coats to keep the smooth finish.

And thats it! Job done!

I love how its turned out its really really smooth and shiny which is what i was going for.

the cord length is perfect , it just slides on and off your head but doesn't hang to low down.

I hope you enjoy and have a go yourself.

All in it took me around 2 hours to make and finish and cost about £0.50 for the piece of cord and heat shrink.

This would make a great gift for anybody you know or just have yourself to show off your work!
