This could have been so brilliant.
The build up in this horror film, one that tries to play with the classic haunted house genre, is superb. It opens with a scene that imbues the film immediately with a great sense of mystery. We then cut to the location where the rest of the film will take place, an old crematorium come mortuary run by a father and son. The place oozes character and serves as a fantastic location for a horror film. There is this palpable feel of the dead, strengthened by the first autopsy scene.
There is an unnerving sense of realness to the corpses and the way the outstanding central duo (Cox and Hirsh) move around them. Director…
Props to any horror film willing to go for empathy when exploitation is so much easier, and to include a brief digression that gives the (usually tactless) animal death its proper emotional due.
She won’t be receiving any awards attention for her role as an unidentified corpse in “The Autopsy of Jane Doe,” but Olwen Catherine Kelly’s performance — in which she lies naked and motionless on a metal slab for 99 minutes — is a profoundly morbid testament to the notion that less is more. At first seeming more like a marvelously effective prop than she does an actual character, Kelly’s frigid corpse soon thaws into a gruesome display of the Kuleshov effect, her blank stare growing a touch more evil every time “Trollhunter” director André Øvredal cuts back to it.

i love how every time something strange happens and austin makes a comment about how "that's not supposed to happen" the dad just keeps saying "i've seen it before" like bro stop acting like this shit isn't extremely weird and unnerving
