Footage of fatal hit-and-run accident in Hong Kong shows suspect inspecting taxi as man lies dying in the road

The 60-year-old victim died of head injuries 30 minutes after being taken to hospital

Hong Kong police have released CCTV footage of a taxi driver inspecting damage to his vehicle moments after a 60-year-old man was fatally hit in the early hours of Saturday.

The victim was pushing a cart when he was hit by a vehicle at the junction of Prince Edward Road West and Kadoorie Avenue in Kowloon City at about 4am.

The black and white footage shows a taxi driver slowly stopping his car and then getting out of the vehicle to look towards the area where the injured man is thought to be lying.

He then casually walks to the front of his taxi to inspect what appears to be damage before getting back inside and driving away.

Earlier, police said the taxi had left the scene of the crash.

The 60-year-old man sustained serious head injuries, and was taken unconscious to Kwong Wah Hospital. But doctors were unable to save him and he was declared dead 30 minutes later.

Officers from the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon West, are investigating.
