Who: Ed Westwick

Where: Virgin TV BAFTA Television Awards, London

With new BBC series White Gold under his belt, Ed Westwick has finally broken the Gossip Girl curse. And it seems his wardrobe has had an upgrade too. In lieu of a Chuck Bass dandy three-piece, the actor cut a far slicker figure at the TV BAFTAs in a classic black suit that requires zero novelty or embellishment. XOXO.

Who: Aziz Ansari

Where: Master Of None Premiere, NYC

Jack of all trades, master of tailoring. At the premiere afterparty of his smash-hit show’s second season, actor-slash-comedian-slash-writer-slash-producer-slash-director Aziz Ansari lifted the classic blue suit with a tonal Oxford shirt and a collegiate-inspired striped tie.

Who: Charlie Hunnam

Where: King Arthur Screening, São Paulo

Despite his latest film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword being universally panned by critics, Sons Of Anarchy alumnus Charlie Hunnam still roared from Hell’s Angel to heaven sent at a recent screening in São Paulo. Dressed in a summer-ready lightweight suit, the actor received far better reviews for his fail-safe wardrobe choices.

Who: Dwayne Johnson

Where: Baywatch Premiere, Miami

As the famous Baywatch theme goes: ‘some people stand in the darkness, afraid to step into the light’. Some people, but not Dwayne Johnson. At the premiere of Hollywood’s cheesiest coastguard saga, The Rock swam to victory in straight-fit jeans, designer kicks and a short-sleeved shirt to provide a peek at the gun show.

Who: Harry Styles

Where: The Late Late Show, LA

Harry Styles’ solo wardrobe has had more than a hint of Mick Jagger so far. But during an appearance on The Late Late Show, the ex-Directioner switched his usual Rolling Stones look for something far sharper, donning a velvet two-piece in an almost-black shade of green.

Who: Big Sean

Where: Dior Cruise Collection Show, LA

Front-row seats at Dior require a statement of epic proportions; luckily Big Sean lived up to his moniker. The Detroit rapper opted for the tailoring move of the moment, with a printed jacket balanced out by classic red carpet staples (and complementing girlfriend) elsewhere. Tres fabuleux.

Who: Matt Smith

Where: Virgin TV BAFTA Television Awards, London

The Crown may have gone home empty-handed from the TV BAFTAs this week, but not even that can take away from Matt Smith’s real achievement of the night. The former Time Lord royally nailed black tie by sticking to the basics, placing smaller details like peak lapels and a pocket square centre stage. Bow down.

Who: Niall Horan

Where: 102.7 KISS FM’s 2017 Wango Tango, LA

As Harry Styles stepped into 2017, Niall Horan took a Dickensian step backwards with an outfit that’s more Smartful Dodger than Fagin’s vagrant. By pairing a flat cap with simpler pieces that are still on-theme, the Irishman pocketed a criminal look with an oom-pah-pah finish.

Who: Nick Jonas

Where: Dior Cruise Collection Show, LA

Few people could pull off a baseball cap at an event as flashy as a Dior show. Then again, few people are Nick Jonas. The singer kept his couture casual with a mix of on-trend pieces, letting a simple stripe add bulk up top and using black jeans to switch up the blue tones.

Who: Zac Efron

Where: Miami

Not counting the washboard abs (and the Hollywood salary, and the soul-crushingly handsome mug), Zac Efron’s poolside look is easy to steal. The Baywatch star used a block-colour T-shirt to tone down statement swim shorts, while a simple watch and chain sit on the right side of Miami bling. Take note.
