Joe Johnston, the director behind the original Jumanji, has been tapped to helm the next Narnia film, The Silver Chair.
Silver Chair will take place after the events of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, when Prince Caspian has become King Caspian. The story begins with Caspian’s son, the prince, going missing, leading Aslan the lion to send Eustace Scrubb — who was played by The Revenant‘s Will Poulter in 2010’s Dawn Treader — and his boarding school classmate Jill Pope in search of the missing monarch.
The Chronicles of Narnia film franchise began in 2005 with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and continued in 2008 with Prince Caspian and in 2010 with Dawn Treader. The entire film series has grossed more than $1.6 billion at the global box office. There is no word yet on if any original castmembers will return for the latest installment.
TriStar, the Mark Gordon Company and Entertainment One will finance the adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel. Gordon will produce, alongside C.S. Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham, Vincent Sieber and Melvin Adams.
David Magee, the writer responsible for the book-to-screen adaptations of Life of Pi and Finding Neverland, will pen the script.
Johnston’s other directing credits include Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III and the early Marvel stand-alone Captain America: The First Avenger. He is repped by Paradigm and Gang Tyre.
