During the dark match which followed USA Network’s broadcast of Raw this past Monday (April 10), Chris Jericho & Seth Rollins defeated Kevin Owens & Samoa Joe (so much for that Triple H stable, huh?).
Pretty standard send-the-crowd-home-happy stuff. It was noteworthy, however, because Rollins secured the pinfall by hitting a new finisher on KO. The above video of the match, shot by a fan at Nassau Coliseum, is queued up to the move, which appears to be a knee strike version of IWGP World champion Kazuchika Okada’s Rainmaker.
We’ll see if Rollins starts to use this on television, but it would make sense. Having defeated Triple H, and with his babyface character starting to gain traction, using the Pedigree is a weird fit. He used the Pedigree to finish Haitch and wrap up their feud at WrestleMania 33, and Seth hasn’t recorded a pinfall on TV since April 2 (Finn Bálor ended their tag main event against Owens & Joe on the Raw after ‘Mania). Busting out something new for his first one after finally beating his mentor would be a nice bit of closure.
And, he’s using his right knee rather than the twice-injured left one. Anything’s got to be better than dropping all his weight down on those poor ligaments three or four times a week.
What do you think of the move, Cagesiders? And, just for fun, what should he call it?
