Georgetown City Council 
Tuesday, May 9 
The council will meet for its bi-weekly Tuesday meeting. Items on the agenda include rezoning requests, budget updates and changes to the business retention program.

Public Safety Symposium
May 9-11
Registration is now open for the 2017 Public Safety Symposium hosted by Williamson County Emergency Services on May 9-11. The training will focus on the job of telecommunicator, but also is beneficial to people working in law enforcement, fire, EMS and other public safety personnel.

Local and nationally known speakers will cover topics such as customer service by Mark Warren with the Texas Association of Counties, and John Kelly on how to keep your 9-1-1 call center out of the headlines. In addition, Sheriff Robert Chody will speak on public safety inter-communication, and Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Bill Gravell will be speaking on the role and function of the Texas Justice of the Peace.

Car seat instillation check event
Thursday, May 11
Williamson County Emergency Medical Services will be working in conjunction with St. David’s Round Rock Hospital and Baby Earth to conduct a car safety seat and booster event for area residents.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will assist families with car seat safety inspections, checking for expired seats and any recall information, along with educating families on recommended car seat use.  Child should be present during the fitting appointment.

The inspection event is offered at no cost to participants and is available by appointment only. Please call 512-600-7050 to schedule an appointment.

Trucks with bridge beams affect traffic
May 11-12
This Thursday and Friday, the city said concrete bridge beams will be delivered at the Southwest Bypass bridge site in southwest Georgetown. Delivery of 42 precast bridge beams in convoys of six trucks at a time will lead to brief road closures on the Leander Road and I-35 intersection. Traffic on the main lanes of
I-35 should not be affected. The beam delivery schedule is weather-dependent.

From 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, police will close Leander Road at the intersection with I-35 for brief periods to allow groups of six trucks with beams to pass through the intersection.

Austin Avenue Bridges meeting
Thursday, May 11
The City of Georgetown will host the third public meeting for the Austin Avenue Bridges Project this week.

During the meeting, the project team will present possible improvement alternatives for the bridges that span the north and south forks of the San Gabriel River just north of the downtown Square, provide updates on the environmental compliance process and collect feedback from the public.

 

This study evaluated a number of alternatives and balanced considerations such as historical significance, cost, impacts to property owners and businesses, access, including connections to San Gabriel Park, and input received from the public. Twelve preliminary alternatives have been screened and will be shared along with the five that are moving forward as primary alternatives.

After the meeting, additional analysis on the alternatives will be completed to narrow down options to a preferred alternative that will be presented at a fourth public meeting expected in late 2017 or early 2018.
