Destiny 2 detailed; Will be Battle.net only on PC

Bungie and Activision last night lifted the lid on Destiny 2.

Perhaps the most surprising news is that the PC version of the game won’t be available on Steam – instead, the game will be available on Battle.net, becoming the first non-Blizzard game to grace the network in the process.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will be released on September 8th, although the PC release does not yet have a concrete release date.

PC features include 4k and 21:9 support, an uncapped framerate, mouse and keyboard support, text chat and adjustable FOV. Also present will be all the usual Battle.net social features.

Destiny 2 itself will offer a lot of new features, not least of which is the Guided Games system which allows solo players to team up with squads for trials and raids. It’s matchmaking, basically. The Crucible has had its player count lowered to 4v4, too.

In fact, one of the game’s key mantras is said to be always someone to play with”, which addresses one of the key criticisms of the first game – locking solo players out of some game modes. It will also be possible to launch activities from anywhere in-game and without the need to return to orbit.

The game’s first mission sees the Cabal attacking to the Tower and effectively winning, locking the Guardians away from the vaults and robbing them of their gear. The idea – which functions as a handy reset – is that players then spend the rest of the game trying to get their stuff back to take on the evil Commander Ghaul.

Also new is Clan support offering features such as in-game rosters and custom banners.
