An 80-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 80-year-old wife at their home in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, police said Sunday.

According to police, Michinori Kobayashi has admitted to strangling to death his wife Mieko at around 8 a.m. Saturday at their house, Fuji TV reported.

Police said Kobayashi called them at 10 a.m. and said he had killed his wife, who was suffering from dementia. Police found the woman dead in the first floor living room.

Kobayashi was quoted as saying he was worn out from looking after his wife who had suffered from dementia for the past three years. He said he had hardly been able to communicate with her during that time and felt distressed that their relationship had ended up like this.

Will the social services Japan so desperately needs ever arrive!

unfortunately not, I fear. Spouses, siblings, and children kill their relatives due to lack of social services.  It seems we can't get through a day without reading about it on JT.  As the population continues to gray even more, I fear that these kinds of incidents will increase.

Tragic.

Stangling to death is a violent crime. Overdosing her on sleeping pills is more humane. I care for a person with dementia so I understand how hard it is. But it is also rewarding at times if you can except their plight. I hope he gets a sentance for violent crime and not just let off because he is old.

It's it's still murder. Stop mollycoddling people who kill their relatives because they are tired. That's not love that's selfishness.
