NBC’s This Is Us and HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver and The Night Of are among the honorees for the 10th Annual Television Academy Honors.
The additional programs honored are ABC’s Speechless; Leonardo DiCaprio’s and Fisher Stevens’ Before the Flood climate change doc, which aired on National Geographic; and CNN Films’ We Will Rise: Michelle Obama‘s Mission to Educate Girls Around the World, in which the former first lady, Meryl Streep, Freida Pinto and CNN’s Isha Sesay traveled to Morocco and Liberia and met young women overcoming incredible odds.
“With a constant presence in people’s daily lives, television consistently demonstrates its ability to power social change. The six honorees have effectively leveraged the medium to raise awareness of complex issues,” said Television Academy chairman and CEO Hayma Washington in a statement. “We are honored to acknowledge storytellers producing meaningful television that provokes important conversations.”
The Television Academy Honors celebrate a diverse range of programming that explores and confronts significant issues facing society in a compelling and impactful way and acknowledges the showrunners and producers who tackle complex social challenges to advance change. Honorees will be recognized Thursday, June 8, at the Montage Beverly Hills at a presentation and reception hosted by Dana Delany.
