SRINAGAR, Nov 1: The family of Zahid Ahmad Bhat of Betengo-Anantnag, who was killed in Udhampur attack has said no compensation or sympathy can bring him back.
Ghulam Nabi Bhat, elder brother of Zahid said, "All of us especially our parents are still in a state of shock and deep sorrow. Zahid’s killing has left our parents in a pathetic condition. All of the family members are mourning his death. Nothing in this world can bring a mother or a father their lost son back.”
On October 9, 18-year old Zahid along with other two persons were attacked by a mob when their truck was set ablaze in Udhampur district of Jammu region. Zahid who had received serious burn injuries in the assault was shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjang hospital where he battled for life for over a week.
On October 19, Zahid Rasool succumbed to his injuries evoking widespread outrage and anger across the valley.
“Today was his 15 and we had arranged a fateha for the peace to his departed soul. His death has left us with nothing but tears and his memories which are never going to fade away. Justice will be done only if his killers are brought to book. However, nothing should be expected from the authorities who are busy with their own luxuries,”
Zahid’s father Ghulam Rasool Bhat said that no compensation or empathy could bring his son back.
“I have lost my child. He was brutally murdered. Nothing can bring him back. We do not need any sympathy from this puppet Govt. No compensation or sympathy can bring him back,” Ghulam Rasool said.
According to Zahid’s family members the government had provided them with a compensation of Rs. 10,000 which they had returned. The money was provided for Zahid’s treatment while he was battling for his life.
“When Zahid was being treated for his injuries government had provided us with Rs 20,000 which we returned,” Zahid’s sister said.
