Glooko taps Fit4D for digital diabetes coaching and 8 more digital health deals

New York-based Fit4D, which offers digital coaching for people with diabetes, is partnering with global diabetes data management company Glooko to bring a more data-driven approach to their mobile patient engagement tools. The pairing will give Fit4D’s coaches access to Glooko’s device-agnostic platform, which people with diabetes see in the form of a mobile app they can use to automatically sync their blood glucose data from nearly all types of blood glucose meters, CGMs and insulin pumps. Fit4D coaches will bring the human element to Glooko’s mobile app, helping users access additional motivation and education.

San Francisco-based DigiSight Technologies, a developer of telehealth tools for healthcare teams, has launched its telehealth collaboration tool, Paxos, at 13 Banner Health facilities across Arizona. Paxos, which uses an FDA Class II-registered adapter to capture images, has enabled Banner Health to launch an ophthalmology program that enables ER doctors to send images of serious eye injuries or disorders to specialists.

"Sight is one of life's precious gifts, and it can be seriously impaired or stolen from us due to trauma or disease," Dr. Pravin Dugel, MD, physician executive director at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix Eye Institute and managing partner at Retinal Consultants of Arizona, said in a statement. "Emergency rooms are very good at treating and stabilizing many serious health issues, but unfortunately they are not equipped with imaging equipment nor ophthalmology expertise to quickly assess sight-threatening conditions."

Online physician and hospital information resource Healthgrades has partnered with Conversa, a healthcare-focused conservation platform provider, to introduce a chatbot-powered tool called CareChats. The digital, two-way communication feature allows for patients and providers to continue communicating between visits via text or email conversations.

In a new pilot study at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, researchers are using data from activity-tracking and sleep-monitoring wearables made by ActiGraph to assess the quality of life of cancer patients. Using ActiGraph’s home-based cellular communication device called the CentrePoint Data Hub, Moffitt researchers hopes to mitigate any missed data collection opportunities that arise from remote monitoring.

Healthcare-focused web development company Medical Web Experts has joined forces with CloudMine, a cloud-based platform that serves as the foundation for healthcare organizations to build their own digital health applications. The partnership will pair Medical Web Experts’ healthcare-specific market consulting and web design capabilities with CloudMine’s various developer tools, including HIPAA-compliant data storage, a logic engine for backend code and support for Apple’s ResearchKit.

Belgian biopharmaceutical company UCB has tapped Medidata, maker of a cloud-based data analytics and applications platform geared at advancing medical device and drug development. As part of a multi-year agreement, UCB will use Medidata’s platform in hopes of improving clinical data quality and availability, with an ultimate goal of making clinical trials faster, more efficient and less costly.

Sedgwick Claims Management Services, which makes a digital platform to improve risk consulting and benefits management, is now working with on-demand healthcare concierge company Accolade. The resulting product is what Sedgwick calls a “whole health solution,” which is a proprietary program that will link Sedgwick’s capabilities in navigating a wide variety of claims and benefits with Accolade’s health assistant, who will guide members of an employer-provided health plan through the entire process.

“Sedgwick offers an extensive portfolio of services in the risk and benefits space, and our partnership on the whole health model aligns care management with the highly regulated benefits process to simplify the experience for employees and their families,” Accolade president Rob Cavanaugh said in a statement. “Together, we’re adding significant features to the Accolade and Sedgwick platforms to give people the support they need in navigating the complexities of healthcare and related leave programs. Our partnership gives employers an important integrated benefit that strengthens their programs, drives employee satisfaction up, and is proven to drive costs and complexities down.”

Experian Health, which makes a data-driven revenue cycle management platform for the healthcare industry, has tapped online appointment-booking company MyHealthDirect to launch Patient Schedule, an online self-scheduling tool that also integrates with electronic health records and allows care managers and referral coordinators to book care for patients without the need for phone calls.

New York City-based NexHealthmaker of an app-based appointment-booking and patient communication platform, has launched a new API-level integration with dental practice management software company Dentrix. NexHealth, which also recently partnered with fully mobile EHR company drchrono, works with healthcare practices to complement their EHR and practice management software, and the latest integration with Dentrix is expected to make office work easier and more efficiency.

“This integration is crucial for us,” Dr. Daniel Noor, the head of an 11-provider dental practice in New York City, said in a statement. “Patients booking online via NexHealth see our up-to-date practice calendar - and when they book, the appointment details are automatically carried over into Dentrix. It’s completely seamless.”
