NOTE: This article contains SPOILERS for Telltale’s The Walking Dead

-

Today, Telltale Games revealed the trailer for next episode of their Walking Dead: A New Frontier series, which will be available on April 25, 2017. The release of “Thicker than Water” comes little more than a few weeks after the release of episode 3, which is good news for fans who previously had to wait several months between episodes. The trailer - which you can watch above - finds the remnants of the Garcia family held captive after the failed coup against the corrupt leadership of the New Frontier in Richmond.

The upcoming episode appears to play up the growing tensions between brothers Javier and David, who finally come to blows over their situation and the love triangle between them and David’s estranged wife Kate (who has apparently recovered from her bullet wound faster than Superman). The Garcias are new to the game this season and are the driving force behind the narrative’s events, with Javier being the playable character instead of series mainstay Clementine.

Alongside the trailer, Telltale released a synopsis for the episode:

Upon discovering the true nature of the New Frontier’s leadership, relationships within the Garcia family have come to a head. As Javier, you will decide the shape and nature of your chosen family. All the while, a herd of walkers moves ever closer to Richmond, putting pressure on allies and enemies alike. With distrust running rampant, you’ll have to determine if blood is thicker than water…

Season three’s shakeup allows A New Frontier to live up to its name, providing a new angle on the zombie apocalypse. The cluttered backwoods and sweeping wildernesses are exchanged for the gloomy linearity of collapsing cities. Instead of a ragtag group of strangers, this is a family with all the difficult histories and unresolved resentments built-in.

Clementine now serves as a (mostly) non-playable supporting character. She has aged some in the time between seasons 2 and 4 and has become cutthroat. By limiting her role, Clem’s appearances become more effective, and her actions as essentially an avenging angel underline just how much the world has changed and how she has changed with it. While not much of Clem’s story carried over from last season, one thing has: her desire to protect the infant AJ. Now, she has her sights set on the New Frontier who betrayed her and took AJ away.

There is no word yet on the release date of episode five, which will serve as the finale. It is expected that Telltale will commission a fourth season.
