Nike today announced that it has teamed up with Apple to create a new version of the Apple Watch Nike+, which pairs a Space Gray Apple Watch Series 2 aluminum case with a black and cream Nike band.

Called the Apple Watch NikeLab, the new device is limited edition and designed to be "the ultimate style companion" for those who love to run.

The limited edition, neutral-toned Apple Watch NikeLab maintains the beloved features of its predecessor: deep integration with the Nike+ Run Club app, exclusive Siri commands, GPS, a two-times-brighter display and water resistance to 50 meters*, all made possible by a powerful dual-core processor and watchOS 3.
Apple Watch NikeLab will be available starting on April 27 from Nike.com, at NikeLab locations, and at the Apple Tokyo pop-up store at the Isetan department store. It will not be sold in Apple Stores or from the Apple website, a first for an Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch NikeLab will likely be priced at $369 for the 38mm model and $399 for the 42mm model, the same price as the rest of the Apple Watch Nike+ lineup.

Apple and Nike first teamed up in September of 2016 for the Nike+ Apple Watch that launched alongside Apple's own set of Series 2 Apple Watch devices. Apple offers two Apple Watch Nike+ models in Silver and Space Gray aluminum along with standalone Apple Watch Nike+ bands.

Nike is a lost company. Tim, who sits on the Nike board, needs to stop trying to make this work

Other than some interesting AW bands, nothing has come out of this broad effort

I have an Apple watch and it does what I need, but these color combos and bands do nothing for me.

Neither does talk of Series 3 or whatever. I've concluded the watch is not going to be another iPhone. It might be big business, but it's not huge.

that's awesome. wish it was out earlier when i got the first nike+. oh well, great watch, love using it and perfect for running.

Honestly, you should try a few runs with a Garmin Forerunner 630. You won't be saying the AW is perfect for running after that, you'll be saying why can't Apple make a watch that at least matches the Garmin app's stats. Apple needs to seriously up its game. AW is a toy compared to dedicated sport watches. AW has the capability. Apple just doesn't care enough to make the software. It prefers co-branding to true performance.

What more do you WANT to come out of this effort (which only you are claiming is "broad")?
People buy things for value reasons and people buy things for identity reasons. This is a fairly easy way to sell to people who identify as Nike people.

There are reasons to question whether Apple should create these sorts of identity links with other companies (does it piss off people who identify as Adidas fans? Will any possible scandal affecting Nike spill over to Apple? And certainly how far does it make sense to extend it? Partner with a particular car brand? Clothing brand?)
But all those are, honestly, concern troll issues. Yes, this could expand in the future in a terribly unproductive way, but right now the linkages seem very limited and about right.
(And I say all this as someone who is neither a Nike nor an Adidas person. I don't think I own anything by either of them, because exercise is not part of *my* particular identity.)

the best thing about Apple watch is the ability to pair Bluetooth headphones and sync music on the watch for runs. It'd be hard to go to a watch without this feature.

Now if they could just make the touchscreen work under wet/sweaty conditions.. this is the biggest gripe I have with the Watch for workouts

I am a pretty avid runner. Been running for years and at the moment training for my fourth marathon and I must say I disagree - yes the build in apps could be better regarding stats but they are pretty damn solid already and it's by far the best running buddy I've had (not counting my lovely dog)

this really required a team up?

btw what great marketing apple did with the watch.

you still think these actors are still at apple after this photo op?

BTW the heart rate data and gps of the watch are very inaccurate compared to other watches. But some of you guys will believe otherwise. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/02/apple-watch-review.html "BUT I LOVE MY APPLE WATCH!! APPLE IS THE BESTEST IN THE WORLD!!"

No thanks. My eyes hurt after glancing at that thing.

What I wish Apple would do is improve the sensors. I'm finding that at least once a week the Watch simply stops registering any workout activity, and I end up having to do a "Reset Calibration Data" and reboot of the Watch.

I get that Apple needs to be hip and trendy and has a very hip and trendy person running retail, hence the fashion touches with the Watch and whatnot... but this is a technology company which markets technology, first and foremost. If the tech can't work right, what good are the fashion accessories?

Nonsense. I'm sure it's a science that Apple is doing its best to perfect in the software+hardware.

From a year ago...

I think part of the problem is Apple's slow release cycle. They hold big improvements and advancements until the next major release of their hardware and software, which is once or twice a year.

I'm confused. What's so unique about this one if all that is different (that I can see) is the color? Must been in the lab a long time to come up with a white & black color smash up.

Because the Apple Watch is NOT trying to be another iPhone. It's simply a reflection and a bridge to serve as a notification/fitness device from the iPhone. The Apple Watch will never replace your iPhone and it wasn't meant to be. It's a superfluous convenience factor, but what the Apple Watch does, it does it well.
