Rafa Benitez has agreed a £6.5million deal with Chelsea to sign Christian Atsu for Newcastle.
The 25-year-old winger - who will sign a four-year contract - impressed on loan to help to help the Magpies to promotion, chipping in with five goals and three assists.
Atsu hit two important strikes in the club's final three matches against Preston and Cardiff to help them over the line.
Newcastle had first option on the speedy Ghana international but, under the terms of his loan agreement, had to take up his option by last weekend.
Had Benitez not done so, Chelsea would have been able to charge all other clubs interested in signing Atsu around double the fee he will cost the Magpies.
Atsu had just a year left on his Chelsea contract but, having struggled to get into Antonio Conte's plans at Stamford Bridge, was more likely to go out on loan again had he not signed for Newcastle.
