The Broadmoor Hotel And Its Fleet Of Cadillacs

This article is more than 6 years old.

Broadmoor

The stately, one-of-a-kind Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs offers a fleet of late-model Cadillacs for guests’ use.

The Broadmoor

This is where we at this column come in, tasked with finding these properties and telling you about them, evaluating said vehicles as we’ve done over the past year in Boca, Ft. Lauderdale, and elsewhere, and reporting our findings here .

The problem is you really aren’t going to want to go anywhere once your bags are set down at the Broadmoor, Cadillacs be blasted.

Broadmoor

You walk outside and take deep, satisfying breaths beside a placid lake, a swan or two dipping a beak here and there. You behold the always-majestic mountains. You mingle and nod to people left and right who are chill, well-mannered (even the kids) and non-annoying even when they’ve got a few drinks in them. Dogs are welcome whether purebred or mutt, mastiff or Chihuahua. The fare is sublime, particularly the high-end Ristorante Del Lago and the lower-key Natural Epicurean.

The property itself is comprised of a series of solid, stately dwellings originally put up in 1918 and aimed at heads of state, celebrities, professional sports stars and businesspeople, or all of them at once - there are 779 rooms, after all.

Ordinary folks were welcome, too, of course. One can just imagine Great Aunt Fanny and Uncle Hollandaise rolling up to the Broadmoor in their finest horse and buggy and being speechless for a moment, as we were. And here you are - you and the mountains and more of a village than a "hotel."

The spa has a full-service gym, too, with two pools and masseuses who’ll cheerfully shove fists into your back, shoulders and spine, pounding all of life’s woes out of your world-weary self.

Duty called, however. Said Cadillac was procured, in this case a 2017 CT6. Off we sped, figuratively.

At no time did we exceed 30 MPH during our tour of the nearby town of Colorado Springs, nor did we stop off anywhere. The sedan features a healthy 3.6L Direct Injection engine with 335 hp8 and 284 lb-ft of torque with Automatic Stop/Start, motivated by a Caddy-smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. 335 horsepower means it's fast when you need to go fast, but otherwise one eases on down the road, especially through small towns.

As to the program, any guest may participate in the Broadmoor's “Ride and Drive”, based on availability, taking one of the resort's Cadillac fleet for a two hour spin. There are no restrictions on mileage, but you must have a valid driver's license, naturally.

There's also a special package guests can book that includes the following:

- A Cadillac Ride and Drive Room Package

- Brownstone, Penrose suite, or Carlton suite

- Choice of Cadillac Escalade, ELR, or CTS during stay dates

- $100 “Adventure Credit” per night of package

The main attraction of the state of Colorado was, is and always will be the 50-million-years-old-or-so Rocky Mountains, no matter what the humans build or what it costs. But we do wish to live near them, even temporarily, and we also need to hold weddings, graduation parties, business conferences as well as taking personal time to recharge. Having a nice new vehicle available while doing so, such as the Broadmoor provides, is a double-whammy win.
