Efficacy and Safety of Botulinum Toxin Type A on Scar Treatment

Abstract: Objective In order to investigate the efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin type A on body scar treatment.Methods Eighty cases of hypertrophic scars from June 2014 to June 2015 in our department were randomly divided into two groups,observation group (40 cases) and control group (40 cases).The control group were received local injection of triamcinolone acetonide for treatment while the observation group were treated with local injection of botulinum toxin type A,several indexes were investigated including clinical efficacy,pathology,and recurrence and adverse effects.Results The total efficiency of observation group was higher than that of control group,and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P＜0.05).Compared with before treatment,after treatment for 1 to 5 times,the long axis of scar was shorting gradually,and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P＜0.05).The difference between the two groups in terms of length of scar's long axis before treatment showed no statistically significant (P＞0.05);the length of scar axis in observation group at each time point were shorter than the control group,and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P＜0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups showed no significant difference (P＞0.05).Within six months,the recurrence rate in observation group was lower than that in control group,the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05).Conclusion Botulinum toxin type A on treatment of body scar has good clinical efficacy with less adverse effects,and it has a broad clinical application.
