The Sokoto State Commissioner, Bello Mohammed, has lashed out at Northern leaders and elite from the region, saying they are not ready to support the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Speaking at the ongoing maiden Northern Nigeria Solid Minerals and Workshop in Kaduna State, Mohammed maintained that only lips service is being paid, as there is no visible action to back all the talk revolving around diversification.

The Commissioner also lamented that Northern elites are not keying into the economic diversification programme of the Buhari’s government.

Mohammed said, “The North is not yet ready to support President Buhari’s government. It is evident by not registering presence overwhelmingly in this hall.”

He noted that despite the North boasting of 90 per cent of solid minerals in the country, a fact that can greatly boost its bargaining power in the union of Nigeria, it seems comfortable to be relying on revenues from the Federal Government.

Mohammed, however, stressed that his state governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is committed to keying into the diversification programme.

According to the Commissioner, Tambuwal has demonstrated this through the state’s participation in the ongoing workshop.
