The Fading Career of Josh Fox Speaks Volumes

dimock verdict - Tom Shepstone ReportsTom Shepstone

A sure sign his 15 minutes of fame is exhausted is the declining revenue of Josh Fox, whose Sweet Jane Productions has dropped into insignificance.

Every once in a while, I still check on Josh Fox to see what he’s up to these days. The fact I have to check is a sure sign his star has faded, of course. Otherwise, I’d know without checking. He’s now a parody of his former life, of course, desperately trying to grab the spotlight with comments about defeating ISIS with love; comments he knows will capture attention, only to be pranked by the irrepressible Phelim McAleer who started a fund-raising campaign to “Send Josh Fox to Hug ISIS.”

Fox’s comments were obviously designed to get someone, anyone out there, to grab a little free publicity for his ridiculous “How to Let Go of the World and Love All the Things Climate Can’t Change” tour or film or whatever it is he’s trying. Meanwhile, the revenue of Sweet Jane Productions, Inc., the non-profit he uses to scrounge money from taxpayers, special interest foundations and the like is plummeting.

What I’m talking about is this page from the latest filed 990 return for Sweet Jane Productions:

Josh Fox

Yes, Josh Fox’s revenues for the last year available ending June 30, 2015, declined from $1,240,605 the year earlier to $291,130, a decline of over 76% while his expenses increased, meaning he lost $352,402 as his assets dropped to almost half of what they were. Now he’s desperately trying to rebuild with a fund-raising campaign using the lefty Action Network and by pursuing grants wherever he can find them and attaching himself to climate as a cause with himself as the warrior in a “climate revolution,” which is his schtick for self-promotion:

Josh Fox

He even chased down a $5,000 matching donation from the Arkansas Community Foundation, of all people, for his “Let Go and Love Project.” What in the world were they thinking?

What all this tells us, of course, is that except for people like me checking up on him and Phelim McAleer punking him, Josh Fox has sunk into irrelevance. The fracking war is over and he lost. That’s why he’s trying now to morph into a climate warrior. Good luck with that Josh.

  1. Just about every week, you make fun of and disparage those who are on the frontlines of the other side of the issue you are on…so, it’s Josh Fox again;
Why don’t you feature those poor, suffering farmers in NY
who want fracking and give them time on your little-read site….
let’s hear the stories of those landowners who want fracking and why….
and feature the proofs of your scientists who say that fracking does no environmental harms…
anyway, it’s disparage another environmental warrior day.
how about the fortunes of the gas industry pummeling… which they are:
see the losses for three years for the gas companies in my county and state of pa.
like Southwestern Energy, the second largest producer in Pa.: had 2.8 Billion in Losses in 2016…
Cabot Oil and Gas has millions in losses every quarter the past 3 years…
    Who’s fortunes are going downhill…..the Gas Industry….!
and what about your non-profit and your revenue sheet….
show us your revenues the past few years and who in the
    gas industry is backing you…..
with all your “fantastic” efforts, NY and your Wayne County, Pa., where you reside, still don’t have Fracking….
Don’t forget next week to bash another concerned citizen
who is exposing the harms of their land, neighbors, water, air, health from gas drilling next to their homes and on school and farm lands…..

    • There goes Vera again defending her employer, Old Joshie. Hey, Vera: why is it that if Dimock and the rest of PA is so polluted from fracking that you still live in that trailer outside of Dimock? Sounds like we landowners in NY have been screwed over by a governor who stole our mineral rights thanks to the likes of you and your employer.

  2. Hey I’ve seen him on MSNBC several times. Rachel Maddow and Chris Hates luv him.

Well, Chris Hayes maybe not so much.

    • Perhaps their stars are no longer rising but there is still a trail of destruction left in their wake.

The antifracking movement or it’s leaders were organizers of the climate March just yesterday which is all over the news and everywhere that environmentalists gather they are present. They are all over the news still as well too.

      • that’s right; we have a large following as folks become more informed of the ill effects from gas and oil extraction
and the “awake” are spreading far and wide worldwide.

Maryland instituted a ban on Fracking recently….
They looked at the preponderance of the evidence and had the courage to say, “NO”….

        • Vera Maryland legislators didn’t act courageously. Neither did the NY DEC. Courageous people don’t bow down to bullying hysterical and irrational movements.

Why do you think I comment so much about this movement Vera?

  3. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1421729914583795&id=341163402640457&refsrc=http%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FuCbV4MlhGb&_rdr

Looks like some of Mr. Fox’s movement friends have come to his defense here. One thing anyone who has taken a good look at this antifracking movement has to see is how small and interconnected it is.

Doesn’t matter how unreliable Mr. Fox is and he is clearly not a reporter or journalist in any sense, his movies and influence continue to be felt. Out now a film on the Dakota pipeline resistance fiasco. Last year probably most outrageous of all a film about climate change.

Films do not come with warning labels like “told by an unreliable narrator”. This isn’t that different from flyers from activists. They also do not come with warning labels.

    • Karen – my daughter came home to tell me that her AP Bio class had shown his stupid Gasland video, to which I went to the Administrator, even though this is in CA, and told her I will take this school down brick by brick if they ever show propaganda like that again, unless they show the other side. Most students today, after 35 years of poor, liberal group think teaching, have no clue as to where even plastic comes from, which is why, as a parent, one has to be very vigilant today.

      • Stephen,

I have had reporters and editors REFUSE to make corrections to errors in their reporting as in more than one when it comes to the subject of fracking and pipelines. I have never seen anything like what I have seen in the last several years with this issue.

  4. Tom – looks like you are also under Vera’s skin. This lady will never stop. Her behavior is just about worn through like the sycophant Fox’s vacuous brain addled mind. Keep up the good work and I look forward to reading more reactionary posts from these folks as the industry has finally prevailed over their ignorance with the truth.

    • looks like I’ve gotten “under your skin”, Stephen….

      rattled your composure somewhat…..!

      read the : http://concernedhealthny.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/PSR-CHPNY-Compendium-3.0.pdf

for hundreds of studies showing the adverse effects of gas drilling
      near our homes, schools, farms…
that the industrialization of rural areas will not pay off in better health or keep our environment safe….

if you really care, come meet the families in my county that continue to suffer so you and others can continue to use and promote fossil fuels…

      • Vera,
I am still patiently waiting for your “plan” to replace the very fossils fuels you rally against yet use on a daily basis. Where are you and your brethren on promoting energy capture from wastewater treatment plant, bio-reactors and/or landfills?

Surely you would agree that resource management is one the primary issues, correct?
If you were to become a champion of true renewable energy that is being wasted everyday, think about how many low income people in both urban and rural areas could benefit by the energy from their own wastes?
Think about how much “income equality” could be achieved since the microorganisms do not care about what your skin color is, your faith, or your culture…all these “bugs” need are your wastes to process 24/7/365.
Of course these processes work best upon economies of scale however there will be a need to establish transmission systems to far flung places but it would be for the benefit of all and the earth as well.

  5. That’s where I get my info concerned healthy NY, lol! Vera please understand you need a true education in fossil fuel and concerned healthy NY is the place to get. Try looking outside and see for real what state PA is in. A thriving economy, beautiful country side where farmers can stay in business all due to fracking. Step outside of your trailer and look around. There is bright future for landowners in PA thanks to fracking.

  6. I have no words for Vera or Josh, they are simply dust in the wind who will see reversals of bad regulations as truth conquers their church of global warming. I went to the thearter to see The Zoo Keepers Wife and in the previews they showed the church’s founder Al Gore” promoting his new movie once again meant to frighten children and idiots. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF HOW APPROPIATE THEY’RE CALLING IT A MOVIE AND NOT A DOCUMENTARY… Must be actor Al Gore needs a new addition on his 12 million dollar home that uses more fossil fuels in one day then I would use in a year.
