She should not have resigned. This is rediculus. If a black person can use that word then a white person should be able to use it in context.

This is completely unprofessional by the 11 alive news management team. There is obviously nothing there that would even suggest racism. Shame on you. I have been a loyal viewer and an Atlanta for 40 years and am officially going to stop tuning in to 11 alive news and going to another local station. Spread the word. We all need to support what is right and what is obviously wrong.

Poor decision by her to respond that way but definitely is a pretty knee jerk decision by WXIA. She probably shouldn't have been fired.

I'm Black and the guy shouldn't have brought it up no matter what race he was talking too, if he was going to be offended. 18 years of good work and you throw them away, for this. 11 Alive shame on you. I'm offended by your actions.

Why is it that whites are held to a higher standard than blacks?

This is totally insane. As a black man, I was totally outraged Valerie Hoffman resigned after that idiot used the N-word first and she was obviously trying to befriend Curtis to obtain the video in queastion. When I first read the story, I even called 11 Alive News to voice my displeasure about Ms. Hoff resigning her position. She " obviously " meant no malice in response to Curtis' original post.

Black folks, we need to wake the hell up. We can't keep yelling fire in a crowded movie theater. Curtis used the word and tried to act so offended after she responded to his original use of the word. Again, there was no malicious intent in her response. Curtis should have never used the word in the first place. Ms. Hoff has always appeared to be a very professional, capable and smart newsperson for 11 Alive News. To see Ms. Hoff lose her job over something so stupid is beyond ridiculous. Again, I'm black.

11 Alive News totally got it wrong when they forced her to resign. What a world !

If a person is insulted by a particular word then it seems that person should not be using that word. This seems to be the ultimate example of hypocrisy. WXIA made a large number of staff changes with early retirement offers not too long ago. Is Ms. Hoff's dismissal just another staff change with the blame being placed on her? Bad decision, WXIA.

He is probably bragging that he got her fired. I have watched her since she began at 11 alive and I don't believe she meant any harm. He is just wanting to cause problems and/or get money. He probably doesn't even have a job. At least she has worked for a long time. Such a shame.

It's obvious, Curtis hates white people.

I really do get tired of all these racists. Im not speaking of the non-african Americans. Its all a double standard. Get off it and live your lives without blaming others.

G - you are spot on. We (who have logical minds) have to band together to cut the nonsense out of society.

I hate the fake white guilt people have. Her over apologizing made my stomach turn. She should stand her ground.

This is absolutely ludicrous. Words only have the power we give them. He clearly accepts that as just a "word". He uses it all the time. For him to all of a sudden be offended by it makes no sense.

There is no way she should have even been reprimanded, let alone lost her job. Either we're all free to use the word, (in a non insulting way) or no one is. It really is that simple.

    The media promotes racial division.

The double standard is OUTRAGEOUS! He used the word first. So why is it ok for him to use it but not her? B'cz she is white. PC is completely over the top. She should not have been required to resign!

  • gooden - 7 years ago

He is wrong to get that girl fired, she did nothing wrong, he is looking at MONEY.

  • G - 7 years ago

This is insane. I'm black and feel that this idiot who called all news people the N word caused this woman to resign from her job. Anyone can tell that she was joking and trying to befriend him to obtain the video.

Crazy times in America. We got to do better!

  • Noyb - 7 years ago

    Double standard!

  • Timothy - 7 years ago

Don't use the word yourself if you don't wanna hear it repeated back at you. No matter your race. As a black man, our double standards are getting real old. An a or e in the word makes no difference.
