Japan has to start moving towards China. The US is imploding. Besides, joining the AIIB is the only way to get in on the action.

If it leads towards peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding and cooperation then that sounds great.

Most who underestimated the USA so far has been proven wrong. They have too many resources and a wealth of people of all kinds and far reaching influence. There are other powers, but remember, it's the US on China's doorstep, not vice versa.
Imploding much?
Blattamexiguus
As usual. Too late to make any difference. "Beautiful Japan" is being marginalized and only has itself to blame.
Viking Rin
It's funny to say why Japan should approach China, while Japanese despite Chinese.

It makes much better sense to ally with China than the U.S.A. Whoever is driving the US has a death wish. I'd rather go up with China than down the plug hole with Trump and the 1 percent!

Abe is stupid to mislead Japanese people to avoid cooperation with Chinese govt.
What other choice does Japan have?
Pukey2
As usual, too little too late. Why didn't they join before? You know, if you're so anti-China, you don't have to join. Oh, that's right, Sino-American relations have improved since that chocolate cake affair between Trump and Xi, and USA's credibility has sunk since Trump's inauguration.

"Japan and the United States subsequently announced they would not be joining, but the idea has seen a resurgence since March, when the number of members in the AIIB overtook that of the ADB which has now 67 members."
Hahaha... knew Japan would go crawling back. Now the past three years of "let's alienate China!" are coming back to bite Japan in the butt, and it is going to have to suck up to its neighbor, big time!

Abe must be broken hearted that Trump and Xi are now the best of pals.
lostrune2
How much has the AIIB done vs. how much has the ADB done?

Historically, Japan benefited greatly from Silk Road.
Japan had already lost precious time and opportunity to work close with China to the benefits of both Chinese people and Japanese people.
Japan and China have common culture, common people and common history. Japan and China are perfect couple in all aspects of realities.
The missed chance two years ago by Abe was strategic blunder. He will have to be responsible for the loss for generations to come, if he couldn't correct it.

For now. I also think most people around the world have realized to some degree that they overestimated America when Trump got elected.
That's a knee-jerk reaction right there. Don't you see you don't have to be at someone's doorstep to rise? The Roman Empire was at many people's doorstep before it collapsed.

Don't forget that Japan's relation with China is determined by its boss, the US. Now suddenly trump and Xi are BFFs, so maybe Japan can do what it may have wanted to do from the start, which is join AIIB. Otherwise, you can't get into those lucrative infrastructure contracts.

I almost spit out my coffee at that line. Japan long ago lost leadership in investment, if they ever had it. A patronizing comment from a country that lives in the past.

" How much has the AIIB done vs. how much has the ADB done? "
How long has ADB been around? Dec 19 1966 ( gap of 50 plus years AIIB just started Jan 16 2016 , what is there to compare between the 2 common sense people.
lostrune2
OK, let's be more specific: how much has the AIIB done vs. how much has the ADB done ever since the AllB started?
