Track Of The Day #1014 : Petrol Girls – Touch Me Again

‘Touch Me Again’ by “feminist post-hardcore” band Petrol Girls is taken from their debut album Talk of Violence released last November. The four-piece, founded in London, put out a request to fans affected by sexual harassment and abuse to submit videos and pictures of themselves singing along to or holding up signs with the song’s lyrics. The result is a powerful and affecting video of women standing up for their rights in an effort to create a movement against the ‘white supremacist capitalist patriarchy’.

Frontwoman Ren Aldridge said of the video: “Thank you to everyone that submitted footage for this video! This song grew out of my own experiences of sexual violence, both within and outside of the punk community and from our commitment as a band to speaking about consent whenever we get an opportunity. We hope that this video project has opened that platform up to more people that share the same or similar experiences and that this collective project has been in some way empowering! The protest chant MY BODY MY CHOICE is becoming more and more relevant as political attacks on women and other marginalised bodies increase. Hopefully this video can be just one small way of helping us remember that there are many of us, and together we are powerful.”

They also put out another request for a video, details of which can be found on the band’s Facebook page. They are currently on a European tour, dates listed below:
