Mariah Carey and her backup dancer boyfriend Bryan Tanaka have reportedly called it quits.
People reports that the split happened recently so Carey can better focus on her children and music.
Carey and Tanaka began working together in 2006 when he appeared as a member of her Adventures of Mimi tour. Rumors of their romance began last fall and the singer confirmed the relationship in an Associated Press interview in February, after she called him her “boyfriend.” Their affair also played out on Carey’s E! reality series Mariah’s World.
The two started dating in the wake of Carey’s split with her ex-fiancé, Australian businessman James Packer.
Amid rumors that Carey’s closeness with her ex-husband Nick Cannon — with whom she shares and co-parents 5-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan — contributed to her split with Tanaka, Cannon told Entertainment Tonight he’s not involved at all.
“I got too many of my own relationship issues to be worried about an old relationship,” he said. “At the end of the day, she’s an amazing mother and we focus on our kids. That’s never going to change no matter who’s in my life or who’s in her life. We have kids together, so we’ll always be family.”
