If you'd thought Cardiff's arcades looked lovely on a normal day then you won't believe the sights some were faced with this morning.

The High Street Arcade was like a winter wonderland this morning as snow had piled up overnight.

Taken by John Baker at New York Deli, who are closed today thanks to the weather along with other businesses in the arcade, the pictures show the floor of the arcade, cafe tables and plants blanketed in snow.

John said: "There was more snow inside the arcade than outside last night, we think it might be coming in through the guttering. We've decided to close today, but we've been in helping Corner Coffee clear their snow so they can open."

The New York Deli will be shut today

Chris Corner who runs Corner Coffee says the cafe will be open today and see how the weather develops through the morning.

He said: "It was quite a surprise when I got here this morning to be honest. Yesterday the arcade closed early because of the weather, but I'm quite lucky being on the end of the arcade and face onto the street. And I live in Grangetown so it was no problem to come in, I thought people would be out walking in the snow."

Chris explained how he thought the snow might have got in, he added: "There's an apex roof on top of the arcade and we believe there are vents up there too. I'm guessing with the wind last night and the snow being so dry, that's how it got in."
