This position is located in the Division of Ground Maintenance at the Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC.
The primary purpose of the position is to perform laboring duties that require moderately heavy physical effort requiring the use of common hand tools and power equipment.

This appointment is not to exceed 1040 hours in a twelve month period, although position may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. This position is covered under a rehire authority. At management's discretion, the incumbent may retain non competitive rehire/extension eligibility to the same position, in the same location, with the same title and grade as long as 1040 hours are not exceeded in a service year.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in the office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, draft, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area.

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: the incumbent must on a regular and recurring basis operate light duty motor vehicles weighting up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc...) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites over Federal, state and country roads and city streets in all traffic conditions. Loads and unloads heavy supplies and materials as needed to complete park sanitation, trash collection and complete grounds work assignments. Operates heavy power equipment, light power tools and all types of hand tools to maintain building, grounds, roads and trails. Performs janitorial duties for building and grounds as required.

SCREEN OUT FACTOR (MANDATORY): Ability to do the work of a LABORER, WG-05, without more than normal supervision.
This is the ability to perform the full range of laborer duties associated with more than one trade such as mechanical, gardening, custodial, and other trades appropriate to this position. Perform these duties on own initiate with only general supervision subject to occasional inspection. Able to troubleshoot and take initiative to solve problems and take the initiative to solve problems and accomplish work assignments in a safe manner. Knowledge of a variety of technical trade terminology tools, and equipment in more than one area. Possess a strong work ethic, dexterity and able to perform strenuous work as required by the position. Possess the ability to use a computer, maintain records and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
