In a new video filmed for poetry education initiative Poetry in America, U2 frontman Bono recites Beat poet Allen Ginsberg’s poem “Hum Bom!”, originally published in 1973 as part of his collection The Fall of America. The poem was revised and expanded across following decades. Bono and Ginsberg became friends before Ginsberg’s death in 1997. Elsewhere in the video, U.S. poet laureate Juan Felipe Herrera discusses the poem. Watch the full thing below. Poetry in America is an initiative led by Harvard professor Elisa New that operates with the goal of “bringing poetry into living rooms and classrooms around the world.”
