Dolby Cinema Heads to the Middle East

Dolby Cinema — the next-generation theatrical experience that combines Dolby Atmos surround sound and the Dolby Vision laser projection system — is expanding to the Middle East, with Reel Cinemas, the cinema brand under Emaar Entertainment, opening several theaters with the tech later this year.

Among the first sites to open are locations inside the Dubai Marina Mall and the flagship Reel Cinema location inside the Dubai Mall.

“This marks another milestone for Dolby Cinema as we expand our global reach spanning across the United States, China, Europe, and now the Middle East,” said Doug Darrow, SVP of Dolby’s Cinema Business Group. “We look forward to working with Reel Cinemas to bring spectacular moviegoing experiences to audiences who seek out the best in entertainment.”

The Dolby Vision laser projection system adds the company’s proprietary high dynamic range (HDR) tech to theater presentations, offering enhanced color technology and a larger contrast ratio. Atmos, meanwhile, provides object-based sound experiences, bringing audio channels above, behind and under viewers.

“Reel Cinemas is committed to delivering the most revolutionary and state-of-the-art technologies for our guests; this collaboration with Dolby means that cinemagoers can feel fully captivated by the story unfolding on-screen,” said Adon Quinn, senior director of Reel Cinemas. “We are thrilled to be the first cinema chain to bring the Dolby Cinema premium experience to moviegoers in the Middle East.”
