'Destiny 2' Servers Going Down For Maintenance February 13

Destiny 2 servers will be getting some downtime tomorrow ahead of hotfix 1.1.2.1, so make plans accordingly if you were hoping to grab some loot. As of right now, maintenance is scheduled to begin at 8:00 Am Pacific, at which time no new players will be able to sign into the game. At 9:00 AM all players currently signed in will be kicked off, and maintenance is scheduled to end at 12:00 PM. We've seen maintenance that has been both shorter and longer in the past, so take the 12:00 PM time as more of a guideline than a deadline. You can read the details on Bungie's support page.

Hotfix 1.1.2.1 is intended to fix an exploit with The Lost Sector chest system that people have been able to use to farm tokens. Aside from that, the big event for tomorrow is Crimson Days, the now-annual Valentine's Day celebration oriented around partner activities. The highlight here is a 2v2 clash on the Burning Shrine map, where players get buffs based on fighting in close proximity. Last year's Crimson Days were criticized for being hard to get into for people who didn't have friends to play with, and so this year Bungie is extending matchmaking for the event.

Crimson Days will also be a crucial test for how well Bungie is handling feedback about loot, the economy, and the ever-present specter of microtransactions. The game's last big event, The Dawning, was widely panned for restricting its limited-time armor to microtransactions and not allowing people to get the event loot boxes through normal play. The company is aiming to be as generous as possible this time around by showering the player with Crimson Days loot boxes both through playing the special playlist and by doing everything else -- some pieces of loot are also non-random and tied to specific activities in an effort to cut down on RNG reliance. You'll also be able to purchase any particular piece of loot you want with Bright Dust.

Destiny 2 has a long way to go, but it's working hard to bring the game at least back to what people were enjoying with the original Destiny. Let's hope that Crimson Days at least shows growth on microtransactions and events, but stay tuned as the developers continue to revamp the troubled shooter.
